Thanks for the advice and encouragement. I think I am going to just "jump in with both feet," and I am sure my family will think it is the best... until we go to our first competition! We are going to try to make it out to Stagecoach. Then, I think I will have a better grasp of the tools and technique.

Nothing like jumping in with both feet, most of us here have done that and like you said, there's no looking back.  It's a fun ride though and certainly addictive..

Compete!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! No, we are just going to go for some fun: food and entertainment! You guys are too intimidating to me. I know BBQ is a science. I have to humble myself for awhile and earn my stripes!

Colleen, no need to be afraid of them…(most of them) Michael is usually pretty harmless… go to Stagecoach and ride on the coat tails of someone that is just looking for additional “teammate’ or two. It is a great way to play dumb and gather up a bunch of good information… Unfortunately, all the wisdom these teams use to compete and win is displayed during “off” hours… That’s when the magic happens and unless you are up early (or really late like Bear), you miss all the good stuff… If someone offers up a space…Take him or her up on it. You will not regret it.

BTW, I have not been in this site for a while now...been pretty busy... Looks like you are the most popular person around... You can either type fast of have an awful lot of time on your hands

Thanks for the insider info! I don't know about being the most popular <blushing>! Maybe I just add the female energy that a site like this needs.    I do type fast, I will give you that! Plus, I sit at the computer all day while I am at work, so I have a little time on my hands. Don't tell my boss... hahhahahahahahhaha! I am the boss! I usually log on when I should be doing QuickBooks or when I need a break so I don't go insane. It is more fun than MySpace, and the only other forum I am a member of is one for fertility. People are too depressed on that one. I'd rather hang out here and become a smokin' Queen someday!

If you can help one if the teams that will help your out a lot. I got to judge at Viejas in Alpine last year and I learn alot just from that. My wife tells me I need to find some small events and that i need to stop going big LOL. Seems that is all I've done. My first was a charity event a feed the masses thing rib cookoff and it was to say the least a handfull. Now I have a few more people to help so hopfuly it will not be as bad this time LOL.  Just jump right in the water is fine!!!! You learn by doing thats half the fun

I think that is a good idea. I will have to take it slow though. We are working 7 days a week right now, so it is an effort to sqeeze in the lesiure time.    I am hoping with the hire of some new employees it will take a bit of the load of of us and we'll be able to have some more free time.
