if you want to get more meat into the little offset, the easiest approach is to add more grates. Sounds simple right.
Actually it is. All you need is 16 nuts, 16 washers and some threaded stock cut to length. Then you build legs that lock onto the bottom and top grates to hold them together.
assembly is nut, washer, grate, washer, nut......6" away...nut, washer,grate, washer, nut. Just make sure you orient the lower grate below the factory "screws" in the pit. I bought "extra" grates at Home Depot and made them work. A good pair of bolt cutters will allow you to "trim" grates.
I'll try to dig up a picture of this from mine. At one time we had 4 NB offsets set up this way. One had 3 grates so I could cook a bunch of ribs.
