I can buy one of these brand new for $100. Anyone have any experience with them? Or is it better to spend the extra $100 for a WSM?
-
If it is the same as the regular S and G but made out of stainless I would say that for me its not worth it. Even the stainless is not going to over come the short comings of fire control/temp control.
-
Just buy it to have it.......
-
There is a -- or at least was -- some stainless Brinkmann thing with a propane line on CL last week. I B looking for the listing, and if I find it, I'll edit this.
dk
No findee. Your chili rocks, btw.
-
Thanks, Dave!
I've heard through more investigation that the walls are a pretty thin guage metal...guess I gotta bite the bullet and "splurge" on a WSM. FOund one for 177.00 + free shipping, but temporarily out of stock. Go figure.

They are real good to plant flowers in. That way they don't piss ya off.
-
It would still piss me off, cause the plants would die.
Dean, You have enough help out here to do it right the first time. I would have saved a lot of money, just buying a good smoker to begin with. Heck, just show up to Jay's house and take one. With so many around, I doubt he would know one was missing. ;D
Build a UDS if you want to do it on the cheap, mine might have 125 bucks into it and that was with a new drum.
My 2 cents.

I found some food grade barrels in PHX for 15 bucks each, but haven't gotten over to look at them yet. I doubt they are a heavy gauge, but who knows.
I think I already knew the Brinks were crap, but needed to hear it from the experts, thanks, Jay, Dave and KC. I am just such a cheap bastard, sometimes it takes me in directions I shouldn't oughtta go...., but in this case, I was thinking of my wife. She would approve of a shiney stainless smoker!
If I have a UDS and a WSM in my backyard by Christmas, I'll be a happy man.....now Marina on the other hand.... :-\ that UDS is going to be a tough sell.
-
Build it off site, have it show up with a note from santa. How can that miss??? ;D
-
My UDS sits on the front porch...the wife does not complain .......much.
-
Dave... sounds like you have $125.02 in it......
-
I've had my WSM for about 5 years now and absolutely love it. I have smoked with it when it is 110 degrees outside all the way down to 30 degrees and snowing outside. Once you get the temp set it will hold under any conditions. I've used a cheap Brinkman and what a pain that was. It's worth the money to get the WSM
-
wsm are great for sure/./
-
I have and still do own both. A WSM is my choice hands down. I can put a brisket on the WSM at night and sleep until I wake up without worry. Can't do that on a Brinkman that I've ever owned.
-
Well Dean you know my amswer WSM is the way to go for sure.
-
I agree w/ Mark......WSM's all the way. Set it and forget it...kind of. I also heard that there is a pretty solid AZ team that does amazing things w/ 4 WSM's. Dont know who they are, but heard they got Rythm and can Q. ;D
-
What is this "WSM" you all speak of?
-
new spreadsheet program; Windows Spreadsheet Master
-
This R&Q guy, well he cheats with a Stoker. I mean if you can't man a fire in a WSM, maybe Ping Pong is your thing ;D
-
We should all have to start the fires with two sticks.............
