Title: ProQ Excel 20 Review and First Burn...Long
Post by: BruceBenjamin on September 16, 2009, 01:43:28 pm
Oh yeah, baby!  It's here, it's unpacked, it's assembled, it's burned it...It's great!  And I got a FREE HAT! :face:

I ordered my ProQ Excel 20 with the extra third stacker from an Ebay auction for $240 delivered to my door.  From what I can tell there is only one authorized dealer here in the U.S. and they are currently out of stock.  Plus, I saved a bundle of money, possibly half price or better if you factor in shipping charges.  However, because I didn

I just posted this review but for some reason it's only showing a small portion of it.  I typed it out on MS Works and then cut and pasted it here.  When I clicked, "Preview" it showed the entire review but when I posted it it only shows the first paragraph. The review I typed is very looong.  Could this be the problem?

Yes, the forum software does not like cut and paste comma & Apostrophes...  Don't know why, I have submitted numerous bug inquiries to them with no fix as of yet.

Hmm...That kinda sucks.  I've noticed this forum's software is sort of strange.  Maybe consider dumping it in exchange for something that works better?  Just a thought.

Instead of spending a bunch more time trying to correct, edit, whatever it takes to get my thorough review posted here, I'll just submit a link to the ProQ website's forum where the review is posted in full...Apparently THEIR software isn't quite so picky! ;)

Let's see if this will work.

PM me if anyone needs an Excel 20 with hangers, hat, additional stacker, rib rack and a chicken throne.  Smoking deal for AZBarbeque members.

Hey!  I didn't get a rib rack or chicken throne with mine. :'(  That's ok, I already have one of each.  But if I could buy another I would buy from Crash if he still had some.  Just from my initial impressions and from everything I've read I highly recommend this smoker to anyone.  And Crash has the best deal you're likely to ever find.  I did quite well too but his deal is even better. 8)

Yup!  $240 for everything you listed, including shipping and a cool hat.  However, I think Crash has an even better deal for you, depending on if you need it shipped or not.  Even with shipping I think I would've saved a few bucks buying from Crash.  However, I had already used up a bunch of the Ebay guy's time and I decided not to screw him over by wasting his time.

There's some pretty strong words for a newbie. Most of us don't need to write a book b@@ching about what we just bought. Maybe you shoulda stepped up to the plate and bought a WSM. Ya know the old saying You get what you pay for.
BTW we have a ProQ 20 too, and it does have its issues, however for 150 delivered it was worth every penny, thanks to Crash. It might not hold a candle to our 4 WSM's, but when you need some more smoke space it comes in handy.

Wow.  Everyone on this forum has been really cool up until you came along.  I'll just attribute your unwarranted attack on me to some sort of genetic problem on your part and let it go. Let's make this easy for you.  Don't read any of my posts anymore and you won't have to up your medication.  I'll skip your posts too.

For what it's worth, I'm quite happy with my ProQ and I wouldn't trade it for a WSM.  I've seen it.  Mine is better.  The reason for my long review was because there is very little written about this new smoker and I figured a detailed review is much better than a, "Duh!  It good!" review that you seem to prefer.  I'm certain there are going to be a lot of people who find the review quite helpful.

Bruce

P.S.  Forum moderator.  Is this the sort of thing I should expect on this forum?  If so I will spend my time elsewhere.  I really don't need this garbage.

Olive and Bruce.  Please take the attacks to a private place and communicate via PM or email.  Thanks guys, we do appreciate it.

See how it is, I leave for a day and all Hell Breaks loose.  Don't make me pull this website over...  ;)

Bruce,  I do agree that that quirk is frustrating and I'm trying to get it fixed from the forum people.  I would love to go out and spend several thousands of dollars on a state of the art forum software, but with this site being FREE for our members, we just don't have that kind of $$ laying around.  For a Free site, it's pretty amazing I think.

As for the personal attacks guys, please let's all be adults on here and keep that off the site.  I love this site because it is very friendly and fun and I don't have to moderate much, let's keep it that way.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled Pro Q Chat..  ;)

I'll live with the quirks if you all agree to live with mine. :)  That's what makes this place even more enjoyable. Not just that it's free, but that we all can be a bit off. What I'm trying to say is, you can put lipstick on a pig, but that doesn't make it a date.

After viewing the pictures from this past weekend, I have a feeling that Johnny would like to know what states you are talking about Ralph.

AMEN JOHNNY, Like i always say- "wer'e all here cause wer'e not all there!" Anyway i honestly believe that no matter what you cook on, you can produce great bbq once you learn about your particular pit and it's quirks! And out of respect for all of us we can kid all we want but be careful about stepping over the line concerning others pits, technique, meat, rubs, etc! I too have felt slighted or disrespected in the past at a contest but thats in the past and i choose to move on- cause life's way to short!!! let's enjoy the good times while they last! Just my opinion, thanks, PAT

We use aluminum tape on the doors.  We have never used the doors anyways.  The Pro Q latching stackers make access easy.

The doors are easily tweaked to make them seal up a little better...just open the door, grab at the top and bottom and tweak in the direction of the gap, worked like a champ on my 20.   I have never noticed the leakage (even before tweaking) on mine to be a problem.

OH YEA Quick tip!!

One of my latches fell off one of the doors on my 20 when I was moving it to the garage. Unfortunately I did not notice until later, so the parts are gone.  Well i have a few ECBs that I have collected for the grates. (Makes good fire grates in a UDS) Anyway I was able to use one of the latches off of one of the ECBs on the excel 20.  Its a little different but works great!

Thanks for the idea... mine leaks quite a bit from both doors. Time to seal that sucker up!!!  >:(
