Title: Pro Q uestion? (get it?)
Post by: The Smokin Shanty on December 01, 2009, 02:25:07 pm
Anyway..I just purchased a Pro Q excel over the weekend. I have never used a new smoker, just the trusty uds. My question is ..do they need to be seasoned..burned..or are they good to go. Thanks for all the help

As with anything new, it's going to maybe have some oils, or other byproducts of the manufacturing process on it. Always a good idea, in my newbie opinion, to burn and season any new smoker.

I have to agree with Johnny. Worst case, it's not going to hurt anything.

I've put a burn through every new ProQ that we have.  I agree with the others and say give it a good burn.

The best way to "season" it, is to put a chimney starter full of lit charcoal in the centre of the charcoal basket, throw on a few chunks of wood for smoke and let it run until the fire goes out.
Don't put a raging fire in there to start with.
