Last nights practice

So, I am suprised Crash hasn't posted about last nights chicken practice.  It started with a phone call, "Hey Lisa, I am going to do a practice tonight on half chickens."  "Great, I can take the left overs to work for lunch."

Then I get home, kiddos go down.  Crash comes out of the computer room, "Hey Lisa, I am going to be ready to put the chicken on in 30 minutes.  How long will it take you to clean the smoker?  Oh yeah, and the ashes need to be dumped also."

This is where I figure it out that I am also doing a practice at my Pit B*/@h skills.  So out goes the ashes, cleaning the grate, scrubbing the water pan, refoiling the water pan, tightening the legs on the smoker for good measure, etc.  We are good to go.  "Hey Lisa, is the chimney going?"  Okay, so oh wait, there is no charcol out side.  Go to the garage, drag a twin pack into the house to the backyard. "Don't worry babe, I got it!!"  Then I find three empty bags of charcol in the yard, oh wait, make that two and one that is half full.  I wonder how wet it got in the rain.  I touched it and it was dry.  Here is where the Pit B***** learned her lesson.  Don't use charcol that has been in the rain.  You get in trouble because temps don't get as high as you want them.  Lesson learned, won't do it again.

Okay, everything is good.  "Lisa, come look and tell me which one looks better.  Who sprinkled the rub last time?  I don't remember by this time I am either hung over or still drunk."

So the chicken goes on.  We set the timer.  Timer goes off, we spritz and turn.  Of coarse I am helping hold the lid, hold the tongs, etc.  Set timer again, it goes off, we get the sauce.  This time Crash holds the lid so I can be pissed the skin moved and then have to fix it with the BBQ sauce in the dark.  Set the timer again, it goes off.  "Lisa, get your hot gloves.  I want to crisp the skin."  Okay.  Crash supervises me moving the stacker, lifting the grate,"WAIT, hold on" while he moves the coals with my daughters hot pink softball bat.  What doesn't everyone do it that way???!!!  Put the grate over the coals, crispt the skin.

And we are done!!!!!!!!!

And nope, no pictures.  IT WAS MIDNIGHT!!!  I can say that the chicken was pretty.  Just a few modifications and we will be splitting another chicken tonight.  I will make sure we take pictures this time.

So my practice run at Pit B*/-h was successfull as well as the chicken practice was also!!!

This is precisely why I just play dumb when it comes to all of this (ok, I may not be actually playing, but whatever)!!  I think you should start you own team, I-do-everything-anyway-so-why-not-start-my-own-team-and-get-some-credit-for-all-that-I-do" BBQ...AKA Pit B!t@h BBQ.   ;D ;) :D

I gotta side with Crash on this one...it fact, this whole story was probably made up to cast him in a negative light in front of his peers........no pictures, didn't happen.

This is not to put Crash in a negative light at all.  Everything I learned was from him.  He and I are a great team.  He drinks the beers on friday and I drink the beers on Sat.  It just works for us!!  ;D  I will make sure pictures are taken tonight.  We will be doing another run through.  Good thing my kids like chicken!!

And I did thank my man for the meal last night Mike.  I wouldn't have it anyother way...........The chili cheese dogs were GREAT!!!!

I think it's funny how have of the men on here don't want their women "in their kitchen" or to help out on the team because it's the only time they get to themselves and then there are the husband/wife teams.  As Lisa said though, it just works.  Whatever makes your team better is the way to go.  I don't do much cooking, but that's what keeps our team from being DAL  ;)  I bring moral support, the dog and the decoration, that's my job and it just works for us  ;)

Hey Lisa, what is Crash making you for you birthday...I hope it's not chicken!!

I remember talking to several guys over the years and their main concern was how often their wives would let them compete. One day I was talking to these 3 guys with this concern and I said why don't you get the wives involved and form 3 seperate teams. Then you can compete as often as you want. They looked at me like deer in the headlights. :o

Enjoy what you all do together. I think husbands and wives make the best teams.

Hey Erin, It better not be chicken.  And you always have me beat on the Booth end.  I just don't have time with my Pit B*/$h responsibilities.  But I am trying to recruit BBQ Barbie to help on that!!!

And Crash, I know you will be working with Tom on my birthday...........Let me know what is on the menu.  Hey, I am a cheap date!!!

And Jay, we started this as the boys and I just brought the extra beer in the morning.  See what happens when  all you talk about is BBQ and I listen.  I picked up a few tricks!!!!  And it gives us time for fun, because it is alot of work but REALLY fun.

Lisa pretty much nailed that story....100% true!!  She was slipping up a bit on her Pit B^%#$ skills though......I had to get my own beer.   :o
We'll see how she does tonight.

In all seriousness, I cant even fathom doing a contest without that woman.  It just works for us, and she's the only lady that would even consider tolerating my idiocy.

I 100% agree with you Jay!!  We do enjoy competing together and even though it turns out not-so-good, we have a damn good time!
