I decided to modify the charcoal basket so it would rest above the 3 air intake vents. Simply added U bolts to basket that align with the tabs that hold the cooking grill grate. I assume this will increase air flow to the coals. Cooked baby backs this past weekend and it worked fine and seem to heat up faster. I will need to do burns with and without the bolts to do a fair comparison. The basket will also sit higher if just set in the bottom grill section because U bolts increase the diameter. Oh yes .... the ribs were great!

That's a pretty sweet mod.  Did you have any issues with it or notice any +/- results?

Sorry for taking so long to respond. It seems that coals burn a little quicker at start up. I am going to try with and without the mod and see if I can figure out a weigh to bench mark the results. I was having trouble reaching 300* or higher before doing this. The modification actually allows for 2 separate locations for the basket .... one as it rests on the grill tabs and the second a little lower. Next I am going to work on building a new charcoal basket. Mine is rusting quickly which I assume is due to the humidity here in Houston.

I understand ProQ is negotiating with someone to be a US distributor. Any idea who that might be?

Thanks for the idea - works great in several respects.  Got the temp up 10~15 degrees, and keeps it burning more completely.  I noticed before if you are burning beyond 3 or 4 hours the buildup of ash seemed to impede the airflow and require constant agitation of the coals to keep the temp up.  Great idea - thanks.
