Title: BBQ Ribs

Hey this looks really good to me. I love to grill so I can't wait to make this. This recipe is from www.safeway.com

BBQ Ribs

Ingredients

    * 4 pounds baby back pork ribs
    * 4 cloves garlic, sliced
    * 1 tablespoon white sugar
    * 1 tablespoon paprika
    * 2 teaspoons salt
    * 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
    * 2 teaspoons chili powder
    * 2 teaspoons ground cumin
    * 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
    * 1/2 cup cider vinegar
    * 1/2 cup ketchup
    * 1/4 cup chili sauce
    * 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
    * 1 tablespoon lemon juice
    * 2 tablespoons onion, chopped
    * 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
    * 1 clove crushed garlic


Directions

   1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Place ribs on a rack in a shallow roasting pan. Scatter 4 cloves of sliced garlic over ribs. Cover, and bake for 2 1/2 hours. Cool slightly.
   2. In a small bowl, mix together white sugar, paprika, salt, black pepper, chili powder, and ground cumin. Rub spices over cooled ribs. Cover, and refrigerate overnight.
   3. In a small saucepan, mix together brown sugar, cider vinegar, ketchup, chili sauce, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, onion, dry mustard, and 1 clove garlic. Simmer over medium-low heat, uncovered, for 1 hour. Reserve a small amount for basting; the remainder is a dipping sauce.
   4. Preheat grill for medium heat.
   5. Place ribs on grill. Grill, covered, for about 12 minutes, basting with the reserved sauce, until nicely browned and glazed. Serve with remaining sauce for dipping.

Hey 50,

What type of grill do you have???   The reason I am asking, if you can do any kind of indirect, you can do that on the smoker.  It willadd that smoke flavor which is another layer to BBQ.

Yep, you can turn a gas grill into a smoker with no more effort than it takes to do them in the oven. Make "smoke bombs" with wet wood chips wrapped in heavy duty foil, poke a bunch of holes in them and put them directly over the flame on your gas grill (not on the rack-remove the rack and set them on the burner). Put the ribs on the other side with no flame and keep the temp inside the grill at the same temp you would have set your oven. You will need to change out the smoke bombs about every hour or so.

Or better yet,

Buy BBQMom's rig and you can smoke anything you want.   ;D

I have a Char-Broil gas grill. Sounds like I need to get a smoker.

You can start smoking with a gas grill if you can isolate the heat to one side.  Easiest if the burners are vertically across the grill.  You turn on the far right (or left) and move the food to the other side.  tougher if the burners go all across the grill, as you can't isolate the heat from under the food. 

Use wood chips in a foil pouch.  Take heavy Duty Foil and put the wood chips in the foil, poke some holes in it to allow the smoke to escape and you have a smoke bomb.  Place it on the burner that you have going.  You might need two of these, but that depends on how much smoke you like.

I have tried this method it does work. When you get the chance pick yourself up a smoker off craigs list if you are patient you can usually get what you are looking for. Good luck and enjoy.
