40 acres approx 10 miles south of Ashfork.  Ashfork is 20 miles West of Williams,AZ which is approx 40 miles West of Flagstaff.
Easy way to get there is to go to Prescott and turn north, you'll run right into Ashfork.

When my family was young we used it to camp on. We had a 20x20 Ramada built next to a 5'x5' fire pit surrounded by a 20' x 30' patio made out of stepping stones.  We have not used it in 10 years, and sadly vandals got to the Ramada and stole 1/4 of the stepping stone patio. The Pit is in good shape still.
40 acres is 1320 ft by 1320 ft.  This 40 is right at 5012' altitude. It is almost dead flat, only 12 feet difference from one corner to the other of the entire 40 acres.
The 40 acres is covered with what is called scrub Juniper. These trees get up to 40 -50 feet tall.
This is great cooking wood. A steak cooked over real Juniper wood fire is to die for.

There is some game on the property. Deer and antelope, javelina, but they are hard to hunt because it is so densly wooded.
Water and electric are still far away, therefore bring your own.  Cell phones do work on the propertydepending on the provider.
The last part of the road to the property is a little rough, but a new neighbor moved in and is working on the road.

I did a quick google search, just to see where in the world Ash Fork is.  there is a fun 9 page banter going back and forth on how it is great or how it sucks.  Have to haul in water, no police on the side of how it sucks  and most of that was a positive on how great it is to get away from it all.

Very Amusing.  It sounds like a great place to pull a trailer and enjoy the silence.

We bought 40 acres west of Ashfork and even west of Seligman, same altitude and trees as AZcolt's.  Great place we park our fifth wheel and do open pit Que'ing.  Only draw back is we picked site 15 miles south of the freeway and it is mostly dirt road.  As long as it dry all is well but man can rain turn the trip into a slopfest!!  Good thing about being so far south is the peace and quiet and the stars!!  Man at night it is like being on the moon!!!

Once when my daughter was young we were sleeping outside the tent on this 40 acres. she looked up at the night sky and commented that it was to bad that there was such a cloud covering the sky so as to cover up the stars. When I looked up to see what she saw, I saw no cloud in the sky. Then I saw what she saw, the milky way that covered the sky from east to west  Billions upon billions of stars that can NOT be seen in town, covered the sky, a true sight to behold!!

AZ COLT 45, We bought our 40 acres in 1985 and moved up fulltime in 1987! Your comment about the milkyway really brought back memories! growing up in phx. you never get to see what your missing unless you go camping! The 1st 2 weeks we were here we couldn't sleep because it was to quiet! I count my blessings everyday to be able to live in the country ( were 15 miles east of snowflake!) and enjoy all that comes with that. when folks come up from the valley to visit it's amazing how fast they talk and how they really can't relax! Everybody is always welcome to visit and get out of the grind for a spell!by the way MIKE i do have electric, septic, and a well, even though for the 1st 2 years we didnt have power, and the 1st 8 years we didnt have a well! but it taught us to really appriciate every little thing that we do have! ANYWAY DID I MENTION UOFA ROCKS! PAT YOUNG

MIKE ,One more thing, iv'e always wanted to host a cookoff where everyone has to cook on the same exact pit and see what the results are! JAY would have to be excluded though cause the man can cook and win on anything! thanks MIKE, PAT YOUNG

AZCOLT45, You are exactly right about juniper wood, wev'e been cooking on it for 23 years and it works great if you use the dead and down trees. we cook our pigs in the ground after a 12 hr burn down of whole limbs and stumps! we were the talk of the town for our 4th of july bbqs! we have over 700 trees on our property and we are surrounded by 100s of acres of dead and down trees that were pushed over 30-40 years ago! as you probably have experienced on your land that wood turnes from an evergreen to hardwood! take care , pat young

Just kidding, nice area up there, and it's true.  Seems like you can reach out and touch the stars.

Your right Pat, after the wood has been down and dried, it does act like hardwood.  It leaves little ash and has a great bed of coals that last a long time.
We would wrap corn on the cob, with butter and salt, in lettuce  Then double wrap in heavy duty aluminum foil. Then we woud bury them directly in the hot coals for about 20 minutes. The lettuce would keep the corn from burning and keep it buttery moist.
We also have dug the pit and done a pig on the property. We had the fire for fri night and hung the pig and covered him, just before we went to bed, next night for dinner the pig was done to perfection.
