Hi All,
Just bought my first smoker after watching a couple of "Pitmasters" shows and eating great Q at Andrews. Thought I'd try my hand at it.  Then I found this website and thought it might be fun to join. Now don't be a hater but it's a gasser. Brinkmann Vertical. After researching the net, I felt I would not have the patience to tend to a wood burning smoker. I cured it as instructed and smoked a whole chicken and a rack of baby back ribs last Saturday.  The best chicken I've ever prepared.  The ribs were great but could have smoked for a little longer.  No problem with the temp, I got it to stay under 250 using a combo of soaked Mesquite and Hickory chips with a water pan. I am sure I'll be hitting a few garage sales soon purchasing somebodys unloved charcoal/wood smoker.

Anyway, this site looks like a great place to spend some time, glad I found it.

Glad you've found us, Dean. We don't have many Deans here, but the ones we've got are Quality! Pecan and apple are even better, IMHO. Lots of folks here like cherry, too, but I hear it's better in smaller doses and mixtures.

For cooking, lower and slower. For spices, mo' hotter, mo' better. Habaneros rule!

welcome to the craziness a lot of us call home. if you really start using that gasser and hanging here, i bet it won't be more than six months before you convert over to a non gasser. if you are not one for babysitting, might i recommend either a proQ or a wsm? be sure to check out the sponsors of the site and get yourself a great deal on stuff.

Welcome, Dean. We look forward to hearing and seeing your BBQ exploits. By the way, there's no shame in having a gas or electric smoker for home use. The end result is what counts. Wood smoke is wood smoke and if it tastes good, it tastes good. You just can't use them in competition.
