Hello, I found this website a couple of days ago and have been on it non-stop.  I'm going to go buy a WSM tomorrow morning at BBQ Island.  I'm so excited to get down with the sickness.. I've never smoked so I'm new to the whole obsession.  If anyone has any beginner recipes that turn out good the majority of the time, I would appreciate your help. This website is awesome.  Thanks

Welcome, You'll probably want some quick victories to break in your smoker, and to learn some of it's quirks.

For the first few times out I started with recipes that take less then 4 hours. (And, for the most part, still do!!!)

Chicken is fast, cheap and versatile. Beer can chicken is very easy to do.
Country style ribs. (These are great to try out new rubs.)
ABT's (A must!)
Fatties (smoked breakfast sausage)
Smoked meatloaf

Welcome. Keep reading around, and you'll pick up some good info. Pork butt is forgiving and a rewarding smoke. Shelton or Mike at BBQ Island will be helpful with tips on your new WSM too. If you've got questions from there, just ask away!

For cooking, lower and slower. For spices, mo' hotter, mo' better. Habaneros rule!

The quick recipes are good while your smoking some nice butts. I like the long cooks. Gives me more time to drink beer. When I grilled and people would ask how long I would say "It took 4 1/2 beers to cook. Now I talk in 6 Packs. Jokes aside :D, and I wasn't joking, Welcome Salty to the site. Nothing but great ideas and better people to go with those ideas.

As Mark said... it becomes an obsession!!! As much of a firearms/hunter addict as I am, I sold one of my firearms to get a Diamond Plate 70 series w/custom extras and a bunch of other stuff!! Wife tells me that the cheapest part of this is going to be my smoker!! LOL!! Told her that it beats paying a shrink!!  ;D  Welcome and have lots of fun!
