Hello all. Just found this through AZBBQA forum. I am a Arizona native (family been in AZ since 1880's) living in Hawaii. We are in the process of trying to sell and move back home. We recently nabbed up 10 acres just a little east of Show Low and cant wait to be living on it. I haven't been doing much BBQ lately. I gave away my char griller to a friend as we empties out our home as much as possible for showing. I do get over occasionally to cook out and get my fix. Itching to get cooking on a heavier duty smoker.
We look forward to meeting you folks and having some BBQ together. I'll be lurking around and chime when I havew anything to contribute. Take care and aloha.

The date on when we move is in the air. We are waiting for a buyer still. As soon as we get a reasonable offer and doesn't fall out of escrow we are AZ bound. We will be moving to Show Low area, but will be in Phoenix frequntly for bulk supplies and visiting with family.
I would love to share some hawaiian foods. I have fanagled recipes to adapt things like lau lau, kalua pig, and kalbi beef short ribs to the pit. I also have taken hawaiian ingredients and adapted to mexican recipes such as kalua pork tamales using dried okinawan purple sweet potatoes for the masa. wrapped in banana leaf instead of corn. As well as some recipes for asian/tropical influence for sauces, rubs, marinates, and glazes.
I am wanting to host a bbq gathering on our property this summer. We may not have full facilities at this rate, but will be a secure camping ground with some amenities either way and get folks in the Valley and the Old Pueblo an excuse to get oput the heat for a weekend.  I had announced this to AZBBQA awhile ago, and now would like to extend the invitation here.

                    Be seein ya. Bear.

Bear,

We will be camping up on the Rim over Memorial Day weekend and will have the big Trailer Cooker up there with us, I'm sure we will have more than enough to share, if you are in town, please plan on coming down to join us.

We have reserved for two camp spots for MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, May 26th, 27th and 28th at CANYON POINT CAMPGROUND.  We have spots #63 & #65.

It should be a blast, and you will get to check out our awesome cooker.

Let us know when you are planning your event, and if we can make it, we certainly will try, I'm always up for a good road trip, especially when BBQ is involved...

Sounds like fun. Hopefully we will be in position to attend. I wont have a mobile rig yet (looking at about 2 years down the road), But I will have a flatbed to haul my backyard model around if it's needed. Have already put a deposit on the backyard pit, just waiting for a moving date so it can be built and shipped.
If we can settled in for campout/cooking this summer it will be toward labor day.

Bear,

Labor day weekend would be great, Provided neither ASU nor the Cardinals have a home game that weekend.  We will just be getting back from our annual Guys Camping trip and will be full from 5 days of BBQ, but we could always find more room if needed ;D

As for a mobile unit....Take a look at the ones we have at one of our event, our prices are very reasonable and our units really do cook fantastic.

If you can show up on Memorial day, we will have plenty of room on our grill for you to throw some of your food if you want.  It is a very large grill.  :o

Thom,  Good to hear you and Bear were able to hook up.

Yea, we broke Bear in pretty good out at NASCAR.  Him and his wife Cindy both seemed to have a great time.

Now we need to get you out to one of our events.

So, where did you do lunch at?  A BBQ place?

Thom,  We are going to be doing a few of the NFL Cardinal games this year, the two I know we will miss are the November ones against Dallas and Detroit.  The Dallas one is on the same day at the same time as the NASCAR race and  the Detriot one is the following weekend and we will be in Miami for the final NASCAR Race.

Don't know if we will get to do a road trip to the USC game this year, but we shall see how the season progresses.

Looking forward to your Indio event, hopefully it is on a date that we can make.  Football season is a tough one for us, we are very busy during that time.
