Great to have a photo to go with the name.  You two look like a cute BBQing couple..  ;D  ;D

Soon, we will be! We were going to make our first attempt this weekend, but we still have to put new tires for the smoker. And, we need to get some wood. Where do you guys buy the specialty woods you use? I may need to get a rub too, but I think I'd rather make one of my own. I will have to do a little more research on that. Maybe we'll be up and runnin' by next weekend.

For wood, go to Berry Bros, you will see their banner ad running up top in the rotation.  Ask for Thomas, he is the owner.  Mention you are with AZBarbeque and he will give you 10% off your order.

He is very knowledgable about all the different kinds of woods and which ones are best for smoking which kinds of meats.

As for the Rubs, I have to admit, I'm addicted to DDog's Apple Rub, that is just some amazing stuff..  He too has a banner ad running in the rotation.  Check it out when you get a chance.  All of his rubs are great, but I love the Apple Rub the best.

We went to him and he is the one to suggest olive wood to us. Really great guy and fun to B.S. with. Ask him about different woods and he will def. help you out at a very reasonable price.

colleen I am glad you figured it out, Colleen and Lee are building the new rig for CHUBBY HUBBY. I look forward to working with them and will have them post pic's as we go. Even if Lee is unaware that he only has about 23 days to have it done so it can be tested before stagecoach.

John Leonard aka Chubby Hubby- I know you wanted the "new rig" in time for Stagecoach, that is why Lee and I hurried to get everything we could finished back in March!!! You were supposed to have your friend bend the metal for the rest of the job and we were going to weld it. Well, you never showed up with the rest of the metal... so we just have your smoke box. That was 3 months ago! Please pay us for (at least) the work we have done.

Last time we spoke you said you were too busy to talk because you were at the "Country Club." Since when is it okay for a Country Club member to stiff as small business?

I agree, Jaybird! We really have done all we can and he is just avoiding us.  >:( This, after he so publically declared we are going to make his smoker for him. Ironic, huh?

Being in business myself we have the rules
Handshake -- people you know and trust
PO's -- companies you do a lot of business with and trust
Check's --- companies you know but don't trust
Credit cards -- normal people pay this way ( we get #'s for special orders)
Cash -- everyone else you don't trust
So here's the order --
Credit --
COD --
CUFF -- you figure this one out ---
and yes we stick to this set of rules

This is good advice. I guess we were too trusting.  :-\

Pappy's Smoke

Welcome

I am new here. I will start off by saying "I love smoked meat!" I am originally from San Diego and I am grateful to be in a town where it is okay for a girl to love meat. I do not have much experience in smokers or traditional BBQ, but my dad has had a smoker for the longest time. I can say this: Smoked Turkey is one of the main reasons I go back home for Thanksgiving!  :P We are hoping to attend some events and make some friends.

On another note, my husband and I own a small metal fabrication shop in Tempe and would like to make ourselves available for those who need custom metal fabrication work.

Lastly, I am we are interested in home-brewing. We'd like to make some friends who know a little more about it. It seems like BBQ and brewing go hand-in-hand. After all, you have to have something good to wash that BBQ down!

If you'd like to know more, just ask!

-Colleen :)
