Hi all,

Just bumped into this site while looking for some BBQ Island cookoff information. Missed the event by a day, but found you all, so I say I am about even on the day so far.

I am a backyard/family charcoal slinger. I enjoy all aspects of cooking withe BBQ and wood smoking my favorite. Currently do not have a high priced rig like some of you, but have a nice kingsford unit with cast iron grates that serves me well. Paid $33 bucks for it on clearance, just had to hit the True Value and buy $1.86 in nuts, bolts and washers. I just started welding again to work on a project vehicle and think I may have a homemade smoker in my future, along with a pizza oven....

Look forward to reading some of the posts and sharpening my skills.

Thanks for having  a great place to gather!!

Thanks guys!

EJ I do know Paul, he was there last Saturday night playing in the bar. Great guy and know his Sushi, just wish we were closer to the water for him to get the "really good stuff".

Look forward to learning and providing any help I can for others.

Once again welcome.  Isn't that how it always goes though, find out about an event the day after.  I hate that.

Hope to see you at some of them in the future and we look forward to seeing you online here sharing your BBQing experiences.

Just an FYI, we LOVE pictures here.  ;)

Enjoy the site and all it has to offer, we have some great discussions, great members and great sponsors.

Good idea, joining this forum! Welcome aboard, Armando. I saw a thread where a guy is getting 400* in his upright drum...that sounds like pizza oven to me!!

For cooking, lower and slower. For spices, mo' hotter, mo' better. Habaneros rule!

I started the outside project, but only got as far as the firepit. Looks big enough for a small pig...

Started with a concrete form:

Then stacked the blocks on the form . Sorry no pic of that process.

Then finished it off with some stone veneer and capped with 2" Thick Sarabia Flafstone that I cut to fit from slabs:

I have young children (one that would likely fall into the pit) so I had to make the height about 20"

Have been kicking around ideas for the fireplace, saw this at a place in Mesa and think I will be going for something of this style, probably won't be cornering it and open up the hearth a bit more:

Looks good.  A nice wood burning pizza oven would go great next to that fireplace.
