Title: Getting to know you question # 6
Post by: ddog27 on September 27, 2006, 01:27:44 pm
Does any one like to hunt or fish? If so what do you like to hunt for or what type of fish do you like to catch?

Post by: ddog27 on September 27, 2006, 02:47:58 pm
I love to do both. But haven't had a lot of time to. I have been deer and javelina hunting. Tons of fun even though we left both times empty handed. But camping with your buddies is a really fun part of it.  ;D ;D

My favorite fish to catch and eat is trout. Nothing better than catching some and then frying them up over a campfire. Yum!!  ;D ;D ;D

Don't hunt or fish, just never got around to it.

Love to camp and BBQ, so I'm sure I would enjoy both the hunting and fishing...

That Trout over a campfire does sound good....  :o

Have only hunted small game as a kid. Want to get into big game next year. I fish at least once a week. I like to catch and eat trout, catfish and bass. Last weekend went to rainbow lake again for bass and trout. Kept cathing northern pike, so I bury those by the apple trees. Than went to woodland lake. Caught 8 trout one day ( kept 5 that we're 12"+), the next day me and Cindy brought home another 5. Fried up the first 5, and will be throwing the other 5 on the smoker this weekend.

Bear,

What are you planning on hunting next year? Deer? Elk? It would be fun to get a group together and hunt and then cook some BBQ! Good times!! ;D ;D ;D

I am going to put in for elk, deer and antelope. Depending on how things look this spring...and way they are going now...I may get a rifle, bow and black powder for total of 9 hunts. Not sure how proficient I will be with a bow by then. definately will be puting in for all 3 for rifle.

Ok FYI all.  Last Feb.  We were passing through Alice, TX when we met a watermelon Farmer that was hvaing all kinds of problems with wild hogs tearing up his melons.  He told me and I checked later at a license sales outlet that an out of state license to shoot hogs was $40.00 and there was no limit on how many you could shoot.  The farmer also said they were "kind of chewey" unless you shot a small one and that the big ones got as big as 300 lbs.  We visited the Aransas and Welder Wildlife Reserves near Corpus Christi and both had big populations of hogs.  Don't know if you can shoot on the reserves but just outside would be the place to go askin for permission.

One hunt I have always wanted to do is the spring turkey hunt. I have heard they are good eating and the hunt involves a lot of sitting! I can't see a bad part to that! ;D ;D

MRS. BOO, Your right them little mudbugs have been slow coming out of the mud this year! It's been cooler longer this season.ALPINE is still in the 20's at night! I put my traps out 3 weeks ago and didn't catch one! But the good news is that they are catching them out of the SILVERCREEK stream near WHITE MOUNTAIN LAKE. I'll let yall know when their hot and heavy! BTW everyone, i would be careful about fishing at RAINBOW lake this year, they are talking about using 2-4-D to kill the weeds! 2-4-D is a main chemical in AGENT ORANGE! I'll keep yall up to date on that situation!

Back in the south it was all about catfishing and deep sea fishing in the Gulf (Snapper, Snook, Amberjack, Sea Bass). Now that I live in AZ it is more about trout. I go up north frequently with my family and in-laws and hit the lakes. We are actually going to Pinetop-Lakeside in early Oct. for some trout fishing.

As an avid angler...I'm slightly embarrassed to know this.  I think it was Greg Muenke...or something like that....who caught those toads.  For those that follow AZ fishing, he's somewhat of a walleye-catching legend here in AZ.

Havent heard about him or his walleye fishing exploits in years though.

I used to go fishing when I lived back in Chicago (my buddy had a house on Castle Rock Lake just north of Wisc. Dells) and never really caught much.  Never could bring myself to go hunting, I don't know that I could pull the trigger...happy to cook with and eat game though, any hunters with excess bounty please PM me!
This whole tag thing is really weird to me-back home the deer are so plentiful they want hunters to bag them so they don't kill a van full of people running across the highway.

I don't hunt anymore.  I used to love it but I worked in a Biology lab for a while and killed who knows how many thousands of animals.  I just lost the taste for it.  For some reason fish don't bother me, so I have no problem fishing.  I love to fish for trout, but my favorite is Bluegills when I can find them.  A lot of fight for a little fish!  Don't get me wrong though, I love to eat meat.  I just prefer to get my brisket at the store rather than cutting it off myself in the dark in a snowstorm.  But hunting is certainly a great hobby, and I have a lot of respect for those who enjoy it (many of my best friends do).

I used to enjoy deep sea fishing for tuna, now it's freshwater for trout.

I like to go, but never shot anything or caught a fish.  I did have one jump in the boat before though (true story).

I hunt and fish, I am a big game hunter mostly (elk, deer, bear, turkey, javelina, boar, etc) and I occasionally fish (more lately with my son wanting to go alot), have to say I love trout on the open fire and smoked as well.

I've never been hunting, although I did used to fish a lot.  As I've gotten older, my idea of the great outdoors has become the backyard!

I have never hunted, but would like to someday.  When I fish it's usually for trout.

Love to hunt and fish. It is getting harder to get a quality draw in Arizona, so I have been looking in other states. I travel alot, so I usually take my fly rods with me for short stops along the road whenever I come across a lake or stream.

My childhood was filled with hunting and fishing with my dad. After hitting jr high, those trips faded out. Then I lost my dad while in high school. So since then, I have not hunted or fished. I would LOVE to get back into it. I want my kid to have the same experiences.

Sure, but I don't do it very often. I like to hunt deer, which is definitely a challenge here in Arizona. Fishing is fun, but I'd rather catch a ton of tiny bluegill, then sit all day and get nothing.

Does any one like to hunt or fish? If so what do you like to hunt for or what type of fish do you like to catch?

Used to hunt Turkey back east, fish, well being from Panama, we fished every damn day! Bass, Snook, Cortina, Sail Fish, Marlin, Grouper, and so many more.
Beer battered Mahi-Mahi (Dorado, or Dolphin - Not Flipper), is so good, as is smoked Marlin.
