I got a nice fat 4.5 lb chuck roast yesterday at SafetyWay. (Safeway...) I don't usually shop there, and I base that solely on the price of ONE item!! Mrs. Renfro's salsa is $3.50 + shipping from their website, I find it for $3.60 at Albertson's, under $2.50 at Stupor Target. SW wants $4.95 a jar. That's like asking $7.49 for a gallon of milk. But I digress. They had round tip roast(?) for sale for $1.99, but were out, so the butcher subbed this nice looking boneless chuckie. I just put it in a marinade of 1C Wyler's onion/garlic bouillon, 6 oz. Screw Kappa Nappa Cabernet, some water, half an onion, a mess of garlic, some Simon and Garfunkel minus the parsley. I'll fire up the charcoal tomorrow morning after I go for a bike ride.
As a side note, my local Big Lots, a clearance type store, has Cattlemans--or was it SBR? Sweet and Spicy sauce in a LARGE bottle for $3...I've gotta go get some!! :P

The thing about safeway is every week they have a couple types of meat on sale. I've gotten to the point where if meat costs more than $2.00 a pound, won't buy it. Safeway does these sales with sub $2.00 chuck, top round, London broil(bottom round), shoulder clods etc. I buy a bunch and freeze it.
There's nothing better than fresh ground chuck, plus you know what's in it.

Back to "I've gotta get a grinder..."
Well, my idea was gone with the wind. I opted not to outdoor DO it today, so I'm using the #8 standard Cast Iron DO inside stovetop, instead of the 12" camp stove w/legs outside on charcoal. Too much wind, and no windbreak yet. I'll have to come up with something. I thought about charcoal in the bottom of my UDS, but not for long. I think I'll make a plate to go in the bottom of the Weber to hold the DO and charcoal. I guess I could have dug a hole...
Anyway, the kitchen smells wonderful. The chuck roast isn't really being braised, though. It's 3/4 under the liquid. And there's really not much room for taters, either.

Well...I typed that post around one o'clock, and left it unposted while I slept. Apparently, dinner was a HUGE success. There is precious little of the roast left. Mine's in the nuke now. I guess I was wrong about room for taters. They all fit nicely.

Great to hear Dave. So while you were sleeping someone stole most of that good cooking? Shame on them... :laugh: Next time, just bring it over here and I will guard it for you.... yeah. :angel:

Next time, try a heavy/dark beer. I know it's hard to get an open beer from the counter to the pot passing the mouth on the way. You can even make it with Coke. Comes out alittle too sweet for me, but some like it.

How many grams of coke do you use?
How come pot humor works, but coke humor doesn't? Oh. Cuz pot is funnier that coke. OK, nebbrmind.
