Has anyone filled the steamer chamber with sand in order to make a quasi insulated firebox?
-
I wouldn't,that steamer option comes in very handy depending on what you are cooking.I don't use it often, but I would leave open for some uses, getting that sand back out of that would be a pain and would probably clog the pipe going into the chamber and wouild make it useless if you ever wanted to use it in the future .

Not sure it really adds anything, perhaps some use it.

I hear lava rocks are better than sand...

Funny.

Don't know what kind of cooker you have but for bullet smokers (in the water pan) I hear lava rocks are better than sand

I was talking about a Diamond Plate smoker with the steamer option. If you don't use the steamer much I was wondering if you drop the steamer use and fill it with sand would that give you some insulation to the firebox that would be worth losing the steamer option?

I guess that's why you posted in the "diamond plate smokers" section and why I'm an idiot, haha... Sorry! didn't even see that

Nothing stupid about trying to be helpful.
