I just ordered a custom DP Fat 40 with chrome, propane burners, and charcoal grill mounted on the trailer from Mike. Hopefully it will be ready before the Pulte/Sun City event. I will post pics when I get her home.
Thanks for all of your help and guidance Mike. :)

Did you get an optional cot or hammock for Chris? Sounds cool. I'll be looking for my break-in party invitation. :)

No - the surprise is you driving out to San Angelo, TX with me to go pick it up!! ;D
-
You betcha... Don't count on me driving any though, I'll be drunk and sleeping!
-
Congrats on the new toy, Smitty. I used to live in Abilene, so I can fill you in on all the hot spots. Here's the list.
Hope that helps. Welcome to West Texas. Where Country/Whinin' is king. BYOB.
-
Congrats.. you will love it.......
-
Thanks everyone. Just heard it will be ready next weekend. Chris and I will be driving out the weekend of Nov. 7th to pick her up so she will make her debut in Sun City. I'm still thinking of a name for her - any suggestions?
-
Sandy. Cuz that's all it is in San Angelo or here! Congrats. Have a safe drive. I know somebody who just lost my--er his job, if you need a driver.
-
I'm positive y'all will have a very appropriate name by the end of that road trip! Look forward to meeting y'all at Pulte!
-
I think we should name her at the event.. after a few.....

That's a good idea - as long as her name isn't Baron Von Jager! :D
-
Yes! Baroness Von Jager. Or, VJ for short.

How about 401k or college fund. Cause that is where the vast amount of money will be going now??

I think the prize money from Pulte will just about cover it... ::) Oh yeah!!!
-
She is ready. Chris and I are on our way to San Angelo to go pick her up after work today!! ;D
Wish us luck and we will see you all next weekend in Sun City for her debut. Mike I need some pointers on how to season her. I had a 1/2 cord of wood delivered to my house yesterday from Berry Brothers. 1/4 cord pecan and 1/4 cord apple so I GOT WOOD!! ;) What else do I need (Pam, olive oil, lump charcoal, etc.)??
Thanks,
Smitty

A practice cook on your DP. You dont want to try to learn how to cook on a new cooker at a comp.
Nothing at all, looks like you're all set.

Nothing at all, looks like you're all set.
Thanks for the advice Crash - I knew you were a stand up guy! :-\
Yes I will be doing a practice cook before the comp. probably on Wednesday (Veterans Day).
-
What time should we be over on Wednesday?
-
Really, what time should we be over?
I would suggest you get a brand new Weed Sprayer.
Then get some Peanut Oil, a large Jar.
Spray the inside & the grates lightly with the oil.
I would start with some regular Charcoal, just a bit, get the temp to about 200 or so, leave it there for about half an hour, then throw on some lump and wood and get it up to 350 - 400. Leave it there for about an hour, actually, at that point, you can just let it burn out. You should be good to go..
Call me when you are doing it, or if I can, I will try to stop by, PM me your address if you want.
Have a safe trip. Can't wait to see it out at Pulte.. Congrats..
-
Let me talk to my wife and I will see. I will PM you Mike.
-
call it "Tumbleweed" cause you'll be dodging those suckers all through New Mexico! hahahaha!
oh and don't forget to get some pics of it and the seasoning session. always cool to share. ;)

I'll post some up when I get her home.

you will love it........

Chris has a couple pics up on FB. Twin Chrome stax, looks like more on the grill area?
-
Alright - we made it back safe and alive with the smoker in tow. That is one hell of a drive. Chris and I left Phoenix @ 3:45pm Friday night and got into San Angelo, TX @ 6:30am Sat. (They are 1 hour ahead of us). Would have been there sooner but we took a detour in El Paso (long story). Ate breakfast, picked up the smoker went to Academy (Sports/BBQ store) to pick up a thermometer and headed home. Left San Angelo around 8:15am and got home around 8:00pm. Chris posted some pictures on his facebook page but I will take more this weekend @ Pulte and post them up for people to see who won't be at the next comp. She towed perfectly - barely could tell she was behind us. I seasoned her yesterday and when I was taking the lock off of the charcoal grill the weld holding the lock in place just fell right off. I need some help welding it back on.
I'm doing some practice BBQ on Wednesday so If you are in the area (Thunderbird & 60th St.) and want to throw some meat on the smoker let me know.
-Smitty
-
Good to hear you made it back OK. Take that over to Johnny's quick and see if he can fix that weld. Let me know.
Hoping to get by there this week and see it.
CONGRATS!!

Nice looking rig. I think you'll really enjoy it.
-
I like the chrome...looks good. Good luck on your Wednesday practice cook.
-
That is freakin' sweet, Smitty! Congratulations! I'm jealous. I'll get that welded up for you no problem. Maybe I can get a second job as factory service rep for the area, huh Mike?
-
As a service rep, won't that qualify you for a demo model?
-

That's what I was thinking. At least I could work for free until I earn one! ;)
-
very sweet looking. glad you made it home safely.
-
Sweet Looking Rig for sure.
Can't wait to see it in action.
Yea Johnny, we will have to put you on Retainer... ;D
I imagine it was due to all that off roading they did with it on the way back. You know how them Georgia Guys like to go Cow Tipping... LOL
-
Thanks guys - she is pretty sweet. Doing a practice round tomorrow then it's show time this weekend. I look forward to seeing you all out there.
Good luck to everyone!!
-Smitty
-
I'll gotta remember to stop by this weekend and check her out...after my judging duties are complete. ;)
-
sweet...... did you get a rack for the wood?
-
No - my buddy who is a welder is going to install one for me sometime soon hopefully. Under the smoke chamber.
-
Smitty, that rig looked awesome out at the event this weekend. Wish I had more time to come over and check it out. When I did, you were right in the middle of everything and I didn't want to disturb you.
Post some more pictures of it up as that is one SWEET looking rig.. ;)
-

Thisn't half the fun of a new cooker learning it?
-
Yes - it is half the fun. Unfortunately, the Pulte event was only the second time I have cooked on her. It went pretty good though!

Just don't learn it too quickly, you'll want to move on to something else. And the next one is always more expensive.
-
congrats Smitty, nice rig...
just one question,
what is on the opposite of the two burners? is it a grill??
I can't see ???

Time to move up in size now........
It's not the size of your smoker...it's the taste of your meat!! ;)
-
ya.. but if it's big and taste good............... well...........
