mardi gras kings cake

                             king's cake or Brioche dough   :o
       1cup scalded milk
       1cup butter
        2/3 cup sugar
        1 teaspoon salt
        1/4 cup warm water
        1 package yeast
         2 beaten eggswhites
         6 beaten whole eggs
          6 cups  sifted flour
scald the milk,cool to luke warm,cream butter and sugar, salt togather,sprinkle yeast over water in a large bowl,stir untill dissolved,stir in milk and cream mixture, add beaten egg yokes, add whole beaten eggs and flour, beat 10 min. cover let rise for 2 hours or untill it doubles in size,when the dough is ready , push down and beat with your fist, turn dough over and repet, cover tighly and refrigerate over night, push down  and turn out soft dough on floured board, knead  and form into  a roll about 12 inches long place on baken sheet that has been greased, form  into a ring, place the dime or doll or bean  some where in the ring make sure its completly covered, let rise again for about 1 hour brush with mixture of egg whits and sugar bake at 375 for 25 to 35 min. or till golden brown,  cool
            decorate with icing
            3 cups of confectioners sugar
             1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
            3-6 tablespoons water
            2 candied cherries
you can tint the icing withe food coloring- purple, green, yellow or
you  can tint sugar-purple,green,yellow and sprinkle on top of the icing
this is a real tradional kings cake made at madi gras time all over Lousianna and its really good but a little work but well worth it oh yeah and who ever gets the piece with one of the treasures in it gets to have to make the next kings cake. so eat be merry and let the good times roll !   ;)
