The search may get ugly....

-
It will be exciting to see who they wind up bringing in.
The entire Pac-12 is going through changes, looking forward to seeing how the next few seasons play out.
-
With both ASU and UA having new coaches next year it'll be interesting to see where they end up at season's end.
Predictions?

Offer to Sumlin....
http://www.azcentral.com/sports/asu/articles/2011/12/01/20111201asu-football-offers-job-kevin-sumlin.html
But he's probably going to Texas A&M per other reports.

Gee, why are you posting yesterday's not-so-new news... Oh. I get it. 8)
Ya know, you mighty Wildcats really oughta get over this obsession you have with ASU. Just because we're the largest university in the country*, have better facilities (soon to be among the best in college athletics), have more $$ to hire a top coach (TBD) doesn't mean you have to be jealous. You're still our l'il brother; we still love ya. ;) >:D
Seriously, enjoy Rich Rod. He was a good hire. Our Prince Charming is still out there. But I agree that the pickins will get slimmer by the week. I've even heard Jim Tressel's name tossed around @ multi-millions annually. Here's the latest article about who is still out there.

You are right Mark, I think we need to leave the reposting to you, The King. Should we go over your past posts of UA coaches or UA issues? I doubt you'd really want that. >:D
BTW...You sure are getting defensive here, nothing was meant by the post. I guess the punking you got still stings,eh?
I'm sure whatever coach ASU hires will be the ideal fit in your eyes, since you love to drink the rust and mustard kool-aid . Maybe you ought to get the moderator to limit the posts here only to positive Sun Devil issues. Genius!
Seriously , ASU has the cash and the ability, but not the time. There just aren't that many top candidates out there. Stoops imploding early for us really helped. It's all about timing.

Are you hitting the bottle too hard again? :D Obsession...I think we're mostly obsessed with watching ASU consistently fail. As matter of fact, I'm sure of it.
Remember when ASU was 5-1 and ranked? That was awesome....awesome only because it was inevitable that ASU would utterly collapse and go 1-5 from there. Losing to the Wildcats...now that's priceless. That was UofA's "bowl game".
Best of luck in hiring that top coach....the clock is running! :D ;) :)

I'm still holding out for Frank Kush sitting on Danny White's shoulders to coach the team. 8) >:D

Now that's funny.... :D
-
Rich Rod, a Pirate, June PAC 12 is going to be fun to watch
-
Thom, you know the game "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon"? It looks like the same can be said of your Ducks. Having an Oregon connection definitely boosts the bonafides of many premium candidates.
-
We love wide open football
The PAC 12 will have it all day

June Jones? Really? :D

June Jones? Really? :D
nope not really :D

I think we oughta torque this rampant speculation towards who is gonna be the Wildcats' QB next season...since all the rats are jumpin' ship. 8)

And that means what Mark? Nice job deflecting ASU'S pathetic attempt to hire a competent coach. No wonder you have to scrape the bottom of the coaching barrell. Hahaha...
-
Just figured since we're all speculating, UA is a dandy speculum. ::)
-
Scuttlebutt is that this will be the new HFC at ASU. Let the rumors begin! >:D

-
That would be a really good hire...............................for U of A :D :D :D
Overall record, 13 seasons with South Florida 94-57 (roughly 7-4 per year)
Last 7 year, in Conference USA, then Big East, 51-35 overal, only 25-26 in conference.
Could any coach have teams less disciplined than DE? Maybe Jim Leavitt http://www.jimleavittmustgo.com/home.html (http://www.jimleavittmustgo.com/home.html)
This is the best that sorry group at ASSU could come up with after completely bungling the whole search? It would be really sad .................. if I weren't laughing so hard
-
Mike, I'm sure you're a better football mind than Jon Gruden, but here's what he had to say.
http://www.azcentral.com/sports/asu/articles/2011/12/08/20111208asu-football-coach-jim-leavitt-candidate.html
-
Mark, yes, I know Gruden recommended him for the job. That's what friends do, though, isn't it? I think his record, both wins and losses (in a mediocre conference), as well as having a highly undisciplined, much penalized team, speaks for itself. Of course, I am sure all of you delusional ASSU fans will tell yourselve how lucky you are to have gotten your 7th or 8th choice as head coach.
Mark, sorry, but it iwll be impossible to put a really positive spin on this one. Going from DE to Leavitt is no an improvement, no matter how much you try to put a happy face on it.
-
Nice job ASSU...Leavitt???? Thats still funny. One of the main DE problems was being undisciplined..and this is who you look to hire? We know that if ASSU hired Pee Wee Herman that Mark would see it as a win. Oh, by the way he is stil out there if you wanna make a phone call...Again, going for the coach nobody wants. Thats thinking outside the box. Give that AD a raise!
-
Now the talk is about Kyle Whittingham http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyle_Whittingham (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyle_Whittingham), although I'm not sure why he would leave Utah to coach at ASU. Plus, Utah didn't have a stellar record in their first season in the PAC-12
Maybe they offered Leavitt, then withdrew the offer?
-
Haha..although Kyle would be better.
-
I agree that leaving one team in the conference to go to another seems strange. Kinda like deciding to date your girlfriend's sister. :-\
I don't know who the next candidate will be. Your guess is as good as mine. It's too bad that the speculation got so out of control. That just means people are interested. I half-jokingly mentioned Danny White a while back. I genuinely believe that he might be one of the few candidates who would get broad approval among the alumni. Plus you gotta love someone who refuses to stay overnight in Tucson to this very day. >:D
-
I think White would be a great coach
-
At this point, they ought to just promote from within. This will go down in college football textbooks as a chapter on "how not to conduct a head coach search"
-
It has been speculation run rampant. That said, no one has been offered the job and turned it down. But it appears that being overly deliberate has allowed blue chip candidates to be scooped up.
But Mazzone is popular and, hey, Todd Haley- the Cardinal's old offensive coordinator is now available. ;) ;D
http://tracking.si.com/2011/12/12/kansas-city-chiefs-fire-head-coach-todd-haley/?sct=hp_t2_a3&eref=sihp
I assume that will all this yukking at the ASU coach selection foibles means that you Wildcat fans are guaranteeing that you'll place ahead of ASU in the PAC-12 standings next year, right? 8) ;D
-
Hey Mark,
I wouldn't guarantee anything in the first year of having a new head coach and a completely new offensive scheme. That, plus ASSU right now has better talent than UA. That is just a fact. DE got the talent, but his teams were so undisciplined that they ended up underperforming by a pretty good margin and folding in the clutch. Depending on who they end up getting as a HC, they could be pretty decent next year.
-
True, Mike. The lack of discipline bit him in the ass. Too bad Erickson couldn't have traded Stoop a cup of stoicism for bombast. Both would have been better balanced for it.
It will be interesting to see what happens between Vontaze Burfict and whoever is ASU's head coach. Burfict went from being an All-American, eventually a very high draft pick, to not even getting honorable mention in the PAC-12. One of the most annoying moments for Sun Devil fans was watching that moron laugh and high-five his buds on the sidelines during the final minutes of the ASU-UA game. I hope he enjoyed it; that alone probably cost this clown millions in draft position status.
No matter how you feel about Dennis Erickson, a two-national-championship elder statesman had earned the right to wind down his fabled career celebrating his notable accomplishments, not being punked by a douchebag like Burfict.
-
I don't have anything against DE, other than his lack of discipline of his players. Burfick could have been a great player, but only if he had been disciplined from his first day as a freshman. As it is, he ended up just being an overweight thug. I'm not sure how even DE could have let Burfict get so overweight.
-
A few days ago but a good summary of events:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45605292
And it looks like Kyle is staying put in Utah. ASU is gonna have to dig deeper into the checkbook or search farther down the coaching pool. Time is just an enemy at this point. I think they can still score well though.
-
I coached Pee Wee football and won a title.. I may have to send a resume over!! :D
-
I'm still holding out for Pee Wee Herman who was suggested earlier. 8)

-
Is this a good hire? I wonder what attracted to them to this coach? Leaving a big program after only 1 year and bailing on all those kids does not show a lot of character.
-
Beats me. Here is SI's take. Some of the blog comments are telling.
http://tracking.si.com/2011/12/14/report-todd-graham-will-leave-pittsburgh-to-become-asu-head-coach/?sct=hp_t2_a6
-
It is an awesome hire....................for the U of A.
Only at ASU...................fire a coach for going 6-6 and hire a coach who just went..............6-6.
This is a great read.

Here's more about the guy. So far about the only good thing I've read is that Pitt was among the lowest in penalties, but that is a heckuva reason to hire the guy. Here's hoping there's more. Time will tell.
Here's some more background on the guy. In the it's a small world category, he used to be on RichRod's staff.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todd_Graham
-
Not only was he on RichRod's staff, so were his assistant coaches. In fact, 3 of RichRod's first hires were from Graham's staff. I also heard that Graham called those 3 coaches "mercenaries" for jumping ship to go to Arizona. Is that funny, or what?
-
:D :D
-
I am thrilled with the way these coaching searches turned out.
-
This may be a good hire.. Lots of coaches that have worked with him have went on to to other big programs.. Seems like he may have a eye for coordinator's.. Also you can throw out the 6-6 at PITT.. He took over after the other dude got fired for drunken driving.. None of those kids were his recruits and he had no QB on that team.. Give him some time I bet you may be suprised.
-
I'm surprised, so hopefully ASU knows something we don't. I didn't even hear this guys name in conversations..
Certainly not the "Big Name" Coach we were hoping to land.
Hopefully it's a good hire...
-
And they wouldnt take June Jones?? :D
This is pretty embarrassing. I feel for the ASU fans. Naw.....actually, I dont. ;)
-
ESPN is really ripping Graham.
http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7355451/arizona-state-sun-devils-coach-todd-graham-new-president-liar-club (http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7355451/arizona-state-sun-devils-coach-todd-graham-new-president-liar-club)
That guy has no class at all.
Other than Love, Crow, and Patterson, I have yet to see or hear anything positive about Todd Graham. He is being dissed by EVERYONE.
-
I have heard lots of good things about him.. A Lb that played for him that is now on the Rams says he is one hell of a coach.. Most people are not bashing his coaching just how he left. Sounds like he as a fish out of Water up in Pitt..
-
From everything I have seen, he is even more of a wild man on the sidelines than Mike Stoops.
I haven't seen a single article where anyone, much less former players, said he is a great coach. Maybe you can link to an article that says that?
But his teams ARE disciplined and get very few penalties. But all the current ASU players are used to DE's undisciplined approach. Are they gonna be able to get in line? How about Vontase Barfight? Will he get kicked off the team?
-
It was on the radio today.. Dude just looks like a coach.. I think he will be good. but who knows.. i thought Tim Brewster was going to lead the Gophers to the Rose Bowl :'( :'( :'(

Wow they ripped the Guy in this article
-
Ouch. Sounds like this guy has a lot of baggage...
-
Ouch. Sounds like this guy has a lot of baggage...
Mike if he had not left Pitt after one year nobody would be saying anything about him.. And Hell who really pays attention to the press anyways
-
I've heard a couple of interviews with Todd Graham and he definitely has a hyper-positive "My way or the highway" attitude about him; but that is what everyone was clamoring for after DE's laidback style. If Burfict was smart :D he would fully embrace it to re-energize his draft standing, because in a battle of the wills with this headstrong coach, Vontaze will come out the loser if he doesn't embrace the system.
Graham supposedly has deep recruiting roots in the South, Texas and California, so ASU might make deeper inroads into the big talent streams there. Only time will tell. That is if he doesn't bolt after a year. :-\ But a successful season, Territorial Cup victory and winning a serous bowl game will turn him from a goat into a hero.
And if he's really smart, it'll all start next season by reopening Tontozona with Kush watching from the sidelines.
-
Next season's coaching squad begins to shape up. >:D
http://www.azcentral.com/sports/asu/articles/2011/12/16/20111216asu-football-adds-mike-norvell-coaching-staff.html
-
With the ASU coaching search....beggers can't be chosers! It's just not a "next level" program.ESPN spoke about how ASU facilities are the worst on the west coast and how Pitt shares some facilities with the Steelers. Makes you wonder.
-
It may not be news in Tucson, but up here there is buzz about major changes to much of the entire athletic facilities, making them capable of hosting things like the Pan-Am games.
