Title: Royal Oak
Post by: Weaponeer on June 04, 2009, 11:35:45 am
I just returned from Wal-Mart at 77th Ave & Peoria, and found Royal Oak Lump charcoal for $6.37 for 10lbs.

Not sure if this is expensive or not as I have never used it before. I bought a bag to give it a try.

I like RO lump it is hard woods so it will keep the heat up a little. I also use RO briquetts I found it a Kmart for 5.99 for 20lbs.

We used this on our first couple of events but had a hard time getting temps to settle down.  It seems to be nice hardwood, maybe I need to mess around with it more..

I've been using both. When I first started using my offset, I was able to run @ 240-250 no problem. I seem to have trouble keeping it below 290-300 lately, using RO briquettes mostly, but a mix of both. WallyWorld almost always has the RO lump in stock, and it looks like K usually has the 18# briquettes in stock. Lots less ash than "THE OTHER STUFF". Lots less.
