Should there be any hesitation in using pecan wood that clearly died from bugs. In allot of the wood I collected there's all sorts of holes in it but it still looks great. Someone I talked to told me no but I didn't really think anything wrong with it.

Couple things to ask yourself:

Do you think it was treated with anything (pesticides)?

Does it still have any bugs or fungus that might infect your house/woodpile?

As long as it looks good and solid, it should be fine. Toss the rotted stuff.

I have been using the pecan wood for over 10 years now. Absolutely great wood to smoke with. The pecan wood is a very gentle smoke, not harsh like Mesquite.
The holes that you are seeing are from wood bees. There is no problem with using this wood with the holes in it, I do it all the time and no one has had any problem.
