Paul Kirk, the KC Baron of BBQ, highly recommends it. I've never used any citrus for smoking. Years ago, my father gave me a cord of lemonwood for the fireplace. I had a sore throat all winter from burning it. :-X

Are you saying Paul Kirk recommends grapefruit or grape woods?

He recommends citrus wood for smoking and singles out grapefruit as a favorite. Grapevine is a whole different story. It is a strong smoke and I personally like it for smoking home-cured bacon.

Thanks, I'd never read that before. Learn something new everyday.   :)

Googled wood for smoking and almost every article said grapefruit wood was an excellent mild wood for all meats and poultry.
