Title: green egg
Post by: jim on July 25, 2008, 11:59:55 am
Just got a large green egg and I have some questions. Using lump charcoal and lighting with a weed burner. I cleanned the intake area and lined up the vent hole. It seems like it takes a while to "warmup" does anyone have times once you put the flame to charcoal. I have not slow cooked anything yet -- but seared some steaks last night. I had to leave the lid open to get the temps up to sears, bottom vent openned all the way and took the top off for flow thru of air. Is this the normal way these work.
Jay once I get this thing figured out ------I will

Jim, did you get the video with the Egg?

I did have to put alot of lump in to get that temp to 750. Plus, then the steaks are closer to the coals.

Wait til you do pizza!

Alway's wheeling and dealing -- no video with this item. I may need to stop by our local egg store and see if one is to be had. I have heard that you need to fill with lump, I filled to the top of the top of the firebox ceramic not up to the grill holder. For a simple smoker they have a lot of parts inside -- pretty cool how they work.
As for the pizza I have a fair dough receipe that I'm going to try.

PS -- I have room for you at Dillon -- bring a chair and some refreshments, looks like a pre cook for the Royal
