Title: Flank steak recipe
Post by: Quiggs on January 19, 2009, 09:24:46 pm
From my Gramma!! Family tradition all summer on any meat!!

3 cups soy sauce
1/4 cup fresh grated ginger root
2 tbls garlic
1/2 cup chopped onion
3 cups sugar
3 tbls ketchup
1 tbls taco sauce (tapatio etc)
5 tbls honey
1 tbls worchestershire
1/4 sherry wine

Heat soy (medium high) and skim any foam that builds up
add ginger, garlic and onion
boil for 5 minutes

Add rest of ingrediants and cook near boiling for 10 minutes

Strain ingrediants and save in fridge for use.

Score flank steak across grain with knife or clever then put in ziplock with enough marinade to cover well 12-24 hours before grilling to medium.  Carve slanted across grain and enjoy!!!

Makes generous quart for multiple recipes.

One key is how you carve it up, make sure to lay knife almost flat against meat and cut across the grain to end up with 1" wide slices even though the meat is only about 1/4 inch thick. Be sure to cook no more than medium for best results.

Good luck!!

Flanks are really good, but the Flat Iron is becoming my favorite, as to me it is more tender.  Use it just like you would the flank or skirt steak, so this recipe should be a winner on it too.  You can even do them directly on the fire,  so good.

Almost, I won't eat those par boiled ribs you cook up all the time in liquid smoke.  They are like acid...  ;D

flank steak is great with fajita, but you need to use the colored peppers or it just doesn't have all the flavor. This recipe sounds great for flank also

We used Flank steak to make carne asada (I think) at the backyard event at Rawhide 2 years ago.

Sounds like a great recipe, I'll be trying this out soon.  I also like Flank Steak marinated in beer with limes, cilantro, red onion, little bit of soy sauce and fresh garlic.  Let that brew for about 4 or 5 hours then 10 minutes of direct heat on both sides followed by about 15-20 minutes of closed lid in-direct heat.  Melts in your mouth.  It's really good with gucamole, sour cream, and cabage on a fresh tortilla.  Almost like carna but with a little twist.  Very good stuff.

Wow, that sounds great as well.  Anything marinated in Beer can't be bad.  I will have to try that one out as well.  ;)

That's my motto.  If it needs to marinate why not use beer.
