New!
Saw a Smoke-Daddy a few weeks ago and thought I could make a few improvements
to it for my application.  I'll probably never cold smoke (maybe).

I like the idea of controlling the duration and volume of smoke when cooking
without having to deal with adding or layering chips in the UDS charcoal basket, etc.

I like the air pump idea and used it in the Smoke-Pak, but here are a few design mods;

1. DIY project with excellent results
2. Quick Connect couplers - easy install and removal and seals tight when not in use
3. Adjustable input tube - adjusts to any angle
4.  Hinged and pivot caps - No need to remove to access - covers stay attached and can be used for venting, etc.
5. Simple eye bolt to allow removal and transport when warm
6. Optional legs to adapt the Smoke-Pak to other types of smokers
7. Off the shelf fittings and pipes that are available that can make the Smoke-Pak adapt to most any smoker.

Get it stared with part of a Kingsford self-lighting charcoal, toss in the chips, turn on the pump and let it go!

Here's a short video of the Smoke-Pak in action;

Everything looks and sounds great, but I don't know about the self-lighting charcoal. I just light my Smoke Daddy's from the bottom with a torch.

I tried the broken up briquette once and it worked fine.

When I did my burns without using the briquette, just lighting the chips, I occasionally had
to re-light the chips.

I have been getting ready to build something like this but had a few questions I had to find out before I started. I have only seen the smoke daddy online, not in person. alot of the details were not shown.

Is there a screen in the bottom that holds the chips while lighting?
If there is a screen, how far up the chute is it located?
What size holes do you have drilled in the bottom?

Thanks in advance for sny help

Yes, there is a mesh screen about 1 1/2" from the bottom. The Smoke Daddy screen is a friction fit pushed in from the top and has a ridge cut on the insdie for it to rest.

I cut my mesh at 3" x 4 1/2 and bent it to be pushed in form the bottom, friction fit. I could tack it in place but so far it hasn't worked loose.

The Smoke daddy has one vent hole for the fire which I found insufficient to maintian a good long smoke.

I drilled 3) 1/4" holes on opposite sides of the 3" tubing about 1/2 from the bottom for air.
