I had the pleasure of joining a group of fellow BBQers from New York last night on a trip to Thee Pitts Again for some dinner.

I have to say, I was very impressed.

First thing I noticed when I pulled into the parking lot was the outside ambience of the place, it certainly made you feel like you were in for some authentic BBQ, not some fake resturant version of what BBQ should be.

Once I walked into the Resturant, I was Sold.  The ambience inside was even better than the outside.  There are all sorts of BBQ Trophies, ribbons, funny sayings, etc throughout the resturant.

Winds up that I know the Owner, Roger Wagner.  He has competed at the Taylor event and Lake Pleasant event last year here in Arizona.  He is also in the book, Peace, Love & Barbeque.  He even has copies there to purchase.

Roger joined us for quite a while and told us some of his great adventures.  He has cooked at the Jack several times, won the Memphis in May and cooked all over the country in competitions, so he really knows what he is talking about.

Then the food came.  I had ordered the combo platter with 3 meats.  I did Pulled Pork, Brisket and ribs with a side of BBQ Beans and French Fries.  I do have to say, this was the best BBQ food I have ever eaten in a Resturant setting.  The food was fantastic.  Great taste and tenderness and good sized portions.  The wait staff was fantastic.  They made sure our drinks were constantly full, the table was cleared when needed and they always had a smile on their face.  Made you feel very welcome.  We also got the appetizers of Fried Mushrooms and Onion Rings and I have to say, those were the best I have ever had with those.  Not BBQ, but still fantastic.

If you get a chance, stop in and try our Thee Pitts Again.  Tell Roger that AZBarbeque sent you and check out his book, Peace, Love & Barbeque.

Mike,

If I may add....If you don't like a lot of sauce, ask for it on the side. And yes, those were by far the best onion rings that I have ever had.

Oh, and I agree with every thing else that you said, other than the 2 of us being from New York. >:D

One of us, humm, humm, is from N.C. and currently living in Virginia. ;D

You have e-mail by the way.

This place was recently featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.

Anyone been there lately?  May have to swing by and give it a try soon.

A client of mine told me that he and friends recently ate there and met Roger.  He said they really enjoyed the restaurant and thought the food was very good.

Roger's joint is one of the few places I will recommend when people ask me about barbeque restaurants.

We ate there a few months back and really enjoyed it.  We asked the waiter if the owner was around because we had never met him.  Roger came right over and talked BBQ with us.  We talked about competing and he actually even knew McFrankenboo BBQ.  We would definitely recommend this restaurant.  Great ambiance, tasty food and cold (good) beer...what could be better than that?

Went here the other night after the Cards preseason game.  Ribs were great even though I don't like sauce on my BBQ.  Also the honey butter they serve up was out of this world on their cornbread.  You also have to try the deep fried mushrooms for an appy.  Overall I will be going back to this place for sure.

Was in the neighborhood yesterday, so I stopped in for a quick lunch.  Had onion rings, Pork and Slaw sandwich and a side of beans.  The sandwich was a nice size and tasted great!  The beans were good, but nothing to write home about, and I really enjoyed the flavoring and texure of the onion rings.

Overall a good experience, tainted only by the hostess seating two women with their 3-4 pre-pre-school age kids RIGHT behind me.  There were other big booths they could have been sat at, as the place was nearly empty, but she chose to stick them right next to an occupied booth...me.   Hey, I like kids, but not when the are screaming directly in my ear while I'm trying to chow down on a Pulled Pork Sandwich.  The Mothers seemed to be oblivious of the Romper Room type atmosphere they had created and did nothing to curb the little curtain climbers from acting up. Oh, well.

Anyway, good grub to be sure, I look forward to returning again!

Got back in here the other day, meeting up  with some friends from Roadfood.com.  They were in town for a couple days to check out great food in the valley before heading back to Connecticut, so I suggested TPA.

We tried the fried pickles, which were great...and HOT! Careful about biting into these things right off.  Use the same batter as the Onion rings, which we also ordered.  They split the combo plate and I had the Pork and Slaw sandwich.  They were very impressed with everything, right down to the cole slaw.  Chris commented that it was some of the best brisket he has ever had.  The only thing that was not impressive was the iced tea, don't know it they were just having a bad tea day or what, but I like my tea clear, this was cloudy and a little bitter.  But the place ain't about tea now is it?

We finished off by splitting the Bread Pudding. WOW! That was some of the best I have ever had, and a great way to finish the meal. They agreed.  There will be a write up about the place in the near future over on Roadfood.com, along with the other places they ate at here and in SoCal.

Once again, Great job to Roger and his crew.

Went there yesterday..... certainly a nice atmosphere....... I will give it one more shot...... the brisket was chewy and the chili was very salty.... and I like salt....... the bbq sauce is mild and smooth..... so I can see where that hits the average bbq crowd...... my wife had the pulled pork and it was moist and tender..... the ice cold beer was great........... I left thinking about Guy's taste..........maybe just an off day........ that's why I will try it one more time.............
