Bar-B-Cutie has several locations in the Nashville area and they are pretty tasty. About a year ago there was an article in the AZ Republic announcing that they were going to open up several locations in AZ. Obviously it hasn't happened.

But I really like Tex's. I've been there a few times with a music buddy of mine. Great "Bar-B-Q Baloney" and deviled eggs. Good down-home sides like you get at a "Meat + 3." Last time,Tex did me the honor of showing me his smokers out back with a beyootiful patina of smoke from years of use. The location is a little sketchy, which I like. Literally on the other side of the tracks.

There are some Rudy's in Armadillo--er Amarillo. They're a chain, but I enjoyed the food...I was jonesin' for Q! They generally have good reviews, and they have long brick pits with heavy steel lids. There are 2 in Albuquerque, too.

I just went to Google Maps, zoomed down I-40, hit the "what's here" link, typed in Barbecue, now wherever I move down I-40, the map fills with BBQ joints. Looks like you can throw a rock in OK City and hit 3 Q joints on the bounces...Ft. Smith AR is historic for 30s gangsters...read Elmore James' The Kid to get an idea...
Here's just one of the places along I-40 in Arkansas...

Whew. I just spent the last half hour cruising around the US with barbeque joints popping up wherever I moved the maps. Pretty fun.

For cooking, lower and slower. For spices, mo' hotter, mo' better. Habaneros rule!

one of the Rudy's here(Albuquerque) is right off of I-40 at Carlisle. coming from the west, as soon as you pass I-25 exit Carlisle and go north over the interstate. it will right on your left.
