Title: Any good BBQ restaurants in Pinetop/Lakeside, AZ?
Post by: smitty250 on September 30, 2009, 10:13:24 am
I'm heading up to Pinetop/Lakeside this weekend for some fishing. Anyone know of a good BBQ restaurant up there?

Thanks,

Smitty

Um, where is Bear's place? I think it's up that way. I just put BBQ into my Garmin near there, and the two closest places it showed were 50 miles away in Holbrook.

Hit up Pat Young, our Ambassador from up there, I think he has a BBQ Joint up there.

Bear works at at German Restaurant up there, but he is still always a great one to get in contact with and meet up with.  Great guy...

Enjoy your trip, can't wait to hear about it when you get back..

Steer Clear of Grumpy Jakes.  I did see one called Stolen Recipe BBQ on the way in, but did not have a chance to try it.

There is a smoker going all weekend outside of the supermarket across from Charlie Clarks.  I think they do mostly ribs....

I've been to Charlie Clarks. I didn't know if there was some "hidden" BBQ joint that I should know about. Thanks for all your input. Maybe I'll try to lug the WSM up?  :)

I know there is a guy that works at Eddie's Country Store (the Pinetop Basha's) that smokes meat out front and takes it back to the deli when it is done.  Dont know if it's any good, but it looked great.

I haven't tried Stolen Recipe since they've moved into the old deli, but they were pretty good when they were out at the farmer's market.

The other good one to try is Waldo's in Show Low (Behind the KFC, Sal & Teresa's  (http://www.salandteresa.com/) is good too).

What place does it show for Holbrook? The only one I can think of was Bubba's on Rt 66. It shut down earlier this year.

Yeah, one was Bubba's. I can't remember the other one, but I'm thinking it was like Gracie's or something.

Thanks Pat - I appreciate it. I wouldn't want to impose on you and your family especially after a funeral and we will be heading back to the valley on Sunday. We are coming up later this evening and staying at Lake of the Woods. How's the weather?

It's in mid/low 60's during the day and supposed to get down to 32 tonight.
I tried stolen recipes when the came up to vend at the fall festival last year. Was hard to judge it. I had a sample of the brisket but was slathered in sauce. The sauce was good, but made it very difficult to to tell anything about the meat. They had a cookshack in their catering trailer, and it smelled good.
Ya can always come say at the Munich Haus.

It should be a good weekend, just remember to bring coats. If you're bringing kids they are having Public Safety Days at the PD/FD around town, and there's a Wildlife Festival at Woodland lake.(Fishing at Woodland is hit and miss because of the weeds, same with Rainbow lake. Show Low, Fool's Hollow and Scott's reservoir are my favorites.) The forecast is calling for a small chance of rain. But fall is just starting here. And I think the overcast really sets off the colors.

Just be glad the winds moved out yesterday. (they were terrible)

I'll be out and about in the forest this weekend with the kids. It's the opening of Squirrel season and AZGFD is putting on a small game camp at Los Burros. I'd invite you to a squirrel dinner, but last time I tried it tasted like rat stew with lead pellets. (Any tips!!!)

I'd give Stolen Recipe a try for lunch since it's just up the road from where you're staying (476 W. White Mountain Blvd.). Then head up the the Munich Haus for dinner. (See if bear will comp you a free dessert, or get the coupon from the website (http://www.munichhausrestaurant.com/))

These are from around Green's Pk yesterday.

The oaks have changed suddenly...it's gettin cold. Oaks are the last to change colors. I will gladly cover desserts and by you a bier (10 german biers on tap). Stolen recipes is a bust this weekend. They are closed for a food trade show.

Haven't tried the Q there. I know they are cooking farmland loin backs. I remember going in one time to get ribs and all they had we're the smoked and raw loin backs. The raw we're 6.99/lbs for enhanced meat...luckily when I got back to safeway to figure out what I was gunna cook, the butcher showed up put some spares out for me.
