I will tell those who think that it's still too much for a thermometer (we all have our budgets to deal with) I have a few of these for back-up models and they rarely take longer than 5 sec. Very accurate, durable and easy to read for $19 and  is worth considering:

I really like mine as well.  Even though the wife bought me a purple one.  Guess the chances of someone walking off with it are pretty low.

Hell, I could always use a backup purple. They are the fastest you know.
