WEll I have learned even in a rain out that you might not want to get all setup and then go to sleep in Arizona. No forecast of rain and we get a storm here in Tempe last nite. Everything WET as the pic will show. Bag so wet it broke plus everything in the smoker/grill.

Good Luck to the smoker's at the Comp.

You have to plan for weather for every comp, as about 85% will have some issues you have to fight, so this is just a practical lesson.   :D

Sorry to hear it - you should have seen the bungee cord/umbrella set up I had last night over my WSM!! It was a feat of engineering if I do say so myself!!

Rained bad here too but just moved the smoker under the patio before it happened. Now something else has come up and I can't make it. We now have a 15 pound packer and 14 pounds worth of butts to eat this week. Not a total loss.

You can't drink all day if you don't start early.

Had a feeling things were going to get messy last night, so I moved everything under the patio cover early.  It sure paid off because around 11 PM we saw buckets of rain!  Dodged a bullet there.  One thing is for certain at BBQ comps, expect the unexpected.

Whatever you did last night worked. The best piece of brisket I had today. Nice job.

The world has shifted off it's axis. Crash and I agree on something. And as a bonus, it's BBQ related. ;D ;D

It's true. We judged a lot of very good brisket, but after all the scoring sheets were turned in, what turned out to be Smitty's entry was the talk of the table. Smitty, whatever you did, keep doing it! :P

If you had been to Rio Rancho any of the last three years, You would know how to cook in any weather  Wind PLUS COLD  Rain & Snow did I say WIND and dirt   and rain  did I tell you Wind and Dirt with some rain and then a EZ-up going buy  To  and yours wanting to go to. Then theirs the Heath dept & Fire Dept,  LP gas Guy and the Tax Guy and did I tell you about the wind.

Sorry I just had to get in on this    Ps I am sure I left out some one or thing

Goood Luck with your BBQ
