This is a good charity for a good cause.  Freedom isn't free( to steal a line from the DAV- another good charity)

http://www.specialops.org/

"The Special Operations Warrior Foundation was awarded its second consecutive 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, the nation's leading charity watchdog group, for its ability to efficiently manage and grow its finances. Only 15 percent of the charities reviewed by Charity Navigator received at least a 2-star rating.  This esteemed award indicates that "the Special Operations Warrior Foundation outperforms most charities in America in its efforts to operate in the most fiscally responsible way possible."
..."The Special Operations Warrior Foundation assistance program consists of three major components: educational counseling, scholarship assistance, and wounded warrior assistance. The Special Operations Warrior Foundation provides scholarship grants - not loans -

to children of special operations forces who died as a result of an operational mission or training accident. The funds are used by the student for tuition, books, fees, room & board, transportation and personal costs."

I also have been a long time contributor. This is a cause that is in ever state as Operators are from everywhere. There is a number of familes in the state that have ties back to group. I think we should look in to doing our next event with SOWF.
Mike we need to talk about this.

http://www.specialops.org/news/16654/Navy-SEAL-Runs-and-runs-for-SOWF.htm

I first heard about SOWF  in regards to the BADwater Marathon( only 135 miles from Death Valley to Mt Whitney Portal).. A Seal by the name of Dave Goggins ran it back in 2006 and almost won. He didn't do so well last year( probably due to overtraining).  He dug up sponsor money to go to SOWF.

Anyway, if SOWF could get Goggins ,and maybe local Armed Services YMCA together, maybe they could come up w/ an idea for an event to draw in a bunch of civilians to run w/ a bunch of Seals/ other service members, having the BBQ at the finish line.

Here, in San Diego, they have a  6 mile "MUD RUN" on Camp Pendleton every year.  It sells out quickly, so much so they have added multiple "mud runs"-  This year there are four of them.

Big party scene after the race, a few bands, prizes, beeer and bbq.

Maybe the BBq competitors could  contribute food , the competitors in the race- entrance fee, the bystanders and runner's friends/family that just want good bbq- an entrance fee, and/or concession fee based on how many times they "belly up" to the bbq or bar( or make it all inclusive in the entrance fee- that would probably  be easier to keep track  of).

If the former, the concession fees collected would go to the SOWF- minus possible stipend(s) to recover some  of the various costs... Just some ideas

 Email sent, bbqwant2b.

I suppose the first thing to do , to move this forward, would be to contact SOWF, so that any potential fundraiser stays w/i the bounds( or close to) of  "non-profit" actvities.

I have no experience , in this regard, other than donating.

I would certainly  be  willing to  follow anyone that does wish to start organizing such an event.
