Title: "Run to Home Base 9K"
Post by: Mrs. McFrankenboo on April 07, 2010, 10:07:22 pm
I don't know if this is the best place for this and I generally don't do these things, but it's a group that is being forgotten and it's just not right.  I am running a 9K on May 23rd in Boston to support those in our military. The RUN TO HOME BASE 9K is a unique and special event that celebrates our military heroes and raises necessary funds for the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program. The Home Base Program is committed to serving the needs of veterans with combat stress disorders and/or traumatic brain injury and their families, but we need your support.  Your support to the Home Base Program will help to ensure that local veterans who served their country receive the care they need for combat stress disorders and/or traumatic brain injury, and that their families get the support they need. The Home Base Program also seeks to advance innovative treatments that hold the most potential for helping veterans with combat stress disorders and/or traumatic brain injury and their families.  Below is the direct link to my page and anything would be greatly appreciated by everyone.

Thank you Crash & Lisa!  I'm really looking forward to this one.  It happens to be a weekend that I will be back East and I thought it was a great cause and is something that would allow me to give back.  Thanks again, I appreciate it! :)

Again, a big thank you to Crash & Lisa, Chuck & Terri from Bark n Chickens, Erik (Cornbred), Tom from IAB 30, Smitty from Loot n Booty, Mike & AZ Barbeque, Jaybird, and Brent & Kim from QN4U for your generous donations.  It has not gone unnoticed or unappreciated.  It's things like this that make me like being a part of this group more and more every day.  I head out next Thursday and the run is a week from Sunday.  I'll be sure to post some pictures when I get back.  It might be of me passed out with a Harpoon and a Fenway Frank, but it will be worth it!

For anyone else, donations for the run will be accepted until this Saturday, but anyone can still donate to the foundation at any time.  I am still $115 short of my goal so hopefully I can make that up in the next few days.  If you are interested, you can donate at https://www.runtohomebase.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donate.donatetohomebase2010&fundraiser_id=1379

And thanks to Tony & Laura (Weaponeer & Mrs. Weaponeer) and Dave & Karyn from Toys For BBQ'n.  I will definitely take a picture coming into home plate and everyone will see it as I will probably have tshirts made to hand out for birthdays and such!!  I'm not only $30 short of my goal and you all helped me get there, so thank you!!!

You are certainly welcome. It was the least we could do for our great Military.

If any of you is looking for another great organization to support here is a suggestion:

The Fisher House http://www.fisherhouse.org/ (http://www.fisherhouse.org/)

The best way to describe the fisher house, is it is the "Ronald McDonald House" for the families of injured or ill military members. And yes everything is free to them.

I have done some volunteer work for them and it was nice.

Thanks again Erin for your time, support, and courage for completing this run.

Oh no, you posted my results!! It's my own personal shame...I'm slow!!  It was awesome and I do have pictures to post and warning track dirt to show.  Again, I thank you all that donated.  They had all sorts of veterans and those still serving and I truly felt proud to run beside them and help in any way, even if it was miniscule compared to what they do for us.  It was the opportunity of a lifetime for me and I just hope that it helped to make a better life for them.  Thank you all!
