This is a copy of the notice posted on the Division of Developmental Disabilities website.  As of March 1, 2009 the state will be cutting costs and dropping service reimbursment rates by 10% across the board.  This is going to make small therapy and provider agencys struggle even more to keep their doors open.  It is also going to make families have a harder time finding and keeping services.

February 13, 2009 PROVIDER NOTICE

In general, provider rates will be reduced by 10%. In addition, other services provided by home and community based qualified vendors have specified reductions for service delivery.

Very Upsetting, they are cutting the wrong areas.  Any petition going yet for this?

Everyone needs to petition the overall cuts to education....... ALL areas will be deeply impacted.... right now a lot of the so called relief is going to title one schools and special ed...... that is fine, however, everyone needs to be concerned greatly how education is being demolished...... keep in mind only 2% of the prison funds are being cut......... compared to possibly 15-20% of education......  we spend over $30,000 a year per inmate compared to $7,000 per student......... if we spent $30,000 per year on each child...... you can bet within 10 years the prison population and prisons would be drastically reduced........ the most secured prison cost us over 30 million 10 years ago........which was one block where Vickors was.. death row... 10 years ago you could have easily built 10 schools..... for about 9,000 students... think about that.........

So letters started going out on 3/3/09 and families started calling yesturday.  Children under the age of three who do not qualify for Long Term Care Coverage will no longer receive services through early intervention.  This is just killing me.  My kids are living proof that early intervention works and they are just ripping it away with 8 days notice to these families.  These kids are the premies, brain injured, feeding tube, extremely sick kids.  Oh my stomach hurts.  This is going to get worse before it gets better.

This REALLY hurts.  I had a grandson with special needs who passed away 15 months ago at the age of 4.   Early intervention helped him progress like crazy.  The service he received and the preschool increased his quality of life.  DAMN I wish we could do something about this.

I work at a pediatric Therapy clinic and we have 30 kids loosing services in one week.  This on top of the reduction in reimbersment rates.  We serve over 300 kids and are struggling to keep the doors open.  We are one of the only clinics on the west side of town and the state just keeps making it harder and harder to help the kids that need it.  I understand that if there isn't any money to go out then there aren't services.  But there has to be a better place to cut funds from then our babies and the future of this country.  So these kids don't get the help now when they can really make amazing progress, then they start getting services later in life, aren't able to become all that they could be, and then the state is paying twice as much as they would if they had just had services when they were little.   URGH!!!!   This is soooo frustrating.
