Title: New ASU Coach?
Post by: AZWildcat on December 02, 2010, 02:52:23 pm
So I heard an ESPN analyst on the radio talking this morning about Div 1 Football Head Coaching changes to come. I was actually surprised to see ASU is still a Div 1 school....but that's beside the point.

Anyhow, Michigan's Rich Rodriguez and ASU's DE are on their way out after the season end. He stated that his sources are making the case that Rich might on his way to Tempe. DE is likely on his way out anyway, and Rich is gonna land somewhere. ASU is considered a 2nd tier football school (his words not mine), not a powerhouse. Rich would be a good fit with his recruiting areas (don't know what they are) and diminished expectations in Tempe (less than Ann Arbor for sure). Anyway, if it happens.....oh well. Personally I would prefer to see DE stay, makes life more enjoyable when ASU is down and out.  IMHO, ASU prefers to recycle head coaches that once caught lightning in a bottle somewhere, but have turned unsuccessful, this might a good fit for the Scum Devils.

On a serious note, good luck to Rust and Mustard tonight...but anyone who knows me, knows I always root for the Red, White and Blue , after all I'M AN AMERICAN!.

Bear Down Cats, stomp their heads into the ground. Can't figure if I want Threet to play, Vegas still has him as questionable. And to ASU, best of luck...COMRADS.

I personally wouldn't be surprised if we lost tonight if Erickson was gone, but who knows.

As far as being a 2nd tier school, I agree with that, UofA is as well.  The top tier ones are the national powerhouses every year, Ohio St., Alabama, Florida, Nebraska, Oklahoma, USC, Stanford, etc.  They pay their coaches Top Tier money thus they get the top tier coaches.

I doubt we would go with Rodriguez due to his baggage, but you never know.  I think Erickson will stay for one more year as next year is truly his team.  The last of Koetter's players are gone after this year.

I'm with you on keeping Stoops, he has been terrible down there in Tucson and got lucky to begin this year.  His head was on the chopping block and somehow he saved it.  After the loss tonight, fans will start screaming for his head again.

Should be a good game tonight, at least I hope it is.

GO ASU!!!

I'd agree. I've lived in other parts of the country, and both AZ schools are considered 2nd tier football schools (although we know Force will blindly put ASU with other 1st tier schools Florida, ND, Oklahoma, Nebraska, etc.., him not knowing the difference). UA is solely considered a basketball school, and a top tier at that. UA and ASU will likely never be considered a "great destination" job,  and Mike, I don't think Stanford is either. ASU is a top tier school at....................umm....ummm.....I dunno. Force, can you help us out this? Maybe you can talk about that National Championship ASU got screwed out of 30 years ago, i'm sure we are not tired a hearing that broken record again  :D . We know it's not football, basketball or academics. Maybe its the ASU mixed double tennis teams, eh?

We are certainly a top Tier school in Baseball, wrestling, Swimming & diving and probably Golf as well.

Stanford gets the Top Teir due to their Ivy league status.

UofA was a top tier in basketball, now the question is can they get back to that level on a consistent basis.

ASU certainly has the potential to be Top Tier in all sports, they just need to get the funding & pay the coaches what a top tier coach would get.  Look for a Discount and you get what you pay for...
