Title: 3rd Rock Springs Boo Bash Throwdown
Post by: Mike (AZBarbeque) on May 19, 2011, 01:58:54 pm
We are locked in for our 3rd Rock Springs event, The Boo Bash Throwdown.

We have 4 mini BBQ Events going on up there during the summer in the Rock Springs Summer BBQ Series and if you compete in any of them, you will get $25 off of your entry into this event, so if you compete in all 4, you will get $100 off your entry fee.

In addition to that, the winners from each month will get an additional $25 off their entry fee for this event, so if you compete in and win each of the 4 mini events leading up to this event, you could have $200 off of your entry into this event.

Entry fee's have not been determined yet, but we are anticipating between $200 - $225.  Hope to have more details soon on this.

We look forward to seeing you all out at these events, it should be a great summer at Rock Springs Cafe..

Hey all, get signed up for this event before September 1st and save $50.

Before September 1st, entry is just $200.  September 1st and later, it's $250.

All teams who sign up before October 1st will also receive a $25 Gift Card to Rock Springs Cafe.  Thanks Augie for donating all of these..

Hope to see you all out there.

There is still ONE Summer Mini BBQ Series left in which you can enter for just $20, then get a $25 credit toward this event.  If you happen to win the mini event, you get an other $25 credit.   That's $50 credit you can get.  Don't miss out.  http://www.azbarbeque.com/forums/rock-springs-brisket-burgers-event/

Hope to see you all out there...

Just picked up the mail today and we have 5 entries in already.

I will post up a team list after the first Early Bird deadline, so somewhere around September 1st or 2nd.

Get your entries in and save yourself some $$$.

The incentives for this event are amazing as is the price.  Just $200 for a $10,000 event.  Not too bad..

Hope to see lots of you out here..  ;)

That's up to you, they can be either.

Follow up question from the ribs.  If I understood the change in meats, I can also enter a rib and a brisket per entry fee, correct?
Title: Re: 3rd Rock Springs Boo Bash Throwdown
Post by: Mike (AZBarbeque) on July 29, 2011, 09:25:13 pm
The Change in meats is ONLY for the August Mini Summer BBQ Series, not this October event. You can view that event by visiting http://www.azbarbeque.com/forums/rock-springs-brisket-burgers-event/

The $20 entry fee for that event is for both meats.

If you want to do multiple, then it's an additional $20 per pair.

For example.  If you wanted to do up 2 different brisket recipes and just one rib turn in, you still would be at $40.

The Discount toward October also only counts for one entry, not multiples..

Hope this helps.  Let me know if you have any other questions.

We are also looking for some additional sponsors to help offset the cost for Rock Spring Cafe, so if anyone is has a business interested in sponsoring, PM me for more details.

For those of you who haven't been to Rock Springs, it really is something to see. This former stage coach stop is just a half-hour north of metro Phoenix. The cafe and saloon are in a historic old building in a high desert setting at about 3000 feet. It's about as Arizona as it gets and sets the perfect stage for a BBQ contest. Their pies alone give folks a reason to drive there. Add in a championship BBQ contest and Halloween fun and you just gotta be there to kick off the holiday season! ^-^

For all the newbies, even if you aren't into their pie a full blown "Reimann style" comp is not to be missed! There's only a couple of promoters out there that can present an event that compares in fun and good times like a full blown "Reimann style" event.
This may sound overblown or just "paid" advertising as happens with "certain" other promoters so let me assure you I owe no allegiance to anyone and I challenge anyone who's been to a full blown "Reimann style" event to disagree. To any that do I'd say remember any of the 2009-2010 events.
You cant' argue with perfection!  8) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Here you are.  There is a pdf file that you can open at the bottom which will describe all the rules and the schedule.  If you are thinking about entering your first competition this is just about the perfect event for a rookie.

Title: Re: 3rd Rock Springs Boo Bash Throwdown
Post by: Mike (AZBarbeque) on September 29, 2011, 05:38:22 pm
It's not looking like we will have any.  The cheapest bid we got was just over $8K and we just don't have that in the budget...

The last 2 events we did out there we didn't have electricity and they both worked out fine...  Just come prepared.

Some of the teams were talking about going in together & renting a Generator, if you are interested in that, you could possible post up a thread about it..

Dan,

I will have my onboard generator and small Honda Generator with me if you are parked close to me. I also have a Sears 3250Watt generator I am selling for $150, but I think the carb is dirty from sitting if someone wants to clean it up I will sell it for less.

I have a 3000 watt fairly quiet honda generator (one step down from the super quiet) that ill prob bring. Anyone around me will have access to it for basic lights and radio stuff. We'll make do. 8k is stiff indeed!

I will post up the current team list as soon as I see 10 members Tweet and/or Share this event on Facebook.

Let's help get this info out as we want a lot of the public to show & it would be great to get to 50 teams..   ;)

Do you know if we can arrive on thursday? I have to make a run up to flagstaff thursday all day and I wanted to drop my trailer off in the morning on the way up to Flag to save the trip back to Rock Springs the next morning.

Robert, you can drop it off on Thursday, however, there will NOT be any security out there Thursday night and Depending on where you are at, I might need to reset you when I get there on Friday morning.

Hey Mike, I have a  65KW Whisperwatt with 4-100 foot cables and 5 or 6 spider boxes if you can use it. It would take about $2K to deliver and set up and maybe another $300-$500 for fuel if you can use it. Electricity for events is costly but if this helps let me know.

Thanks Brandon, I will run it by our committee & see what they say.  We are pretty close to being over budget already, so I don't know that we can pull another $2500 out, but I will see what they say..  Appreciate the offer.

Electric is not going to happen, sorry.  It's just not in the budget for this event.

There will be water available onsite as well as Ice.

I have a final prep meeting out there tomorrow, so I will be sending out the info e-mail later tomorrow with all the details.

We are excited for this event and looking forward to seeing everyone out there.   ;)

This is really turning out to be a big event!  Mike, any chance we can have obnoxious generator teams by those teams running marine batteries w/ inverters or quiet generators?  If there are any teams looking for a source of energy I absolutely love my marine batter and Zantrax inverter setup.  I also know teams like R&Q and a few others are running Duracell power packs.  It's good for the peace of mind knowing that your are self reliant for power and you're not driving the teams around you crazy.

We'll be running our on board generator and you won't want to be within 150 yards of us.  It's very load and puts out a lot of exhaust.  I'll apologize in advance.

The info e-mail is done & just getting all our member's approvals.  I plan on blasting it out to all the teams tomorrow about mid -day & posting it up here as well.

Right now, since we have so many teams, space will be a premium.  20 X 20 & 30 X 20 are the standards, but we will work with all the teams to get them comfortably placed.

If you need a big spot or need room to maneuver, then I HIGHLY Recommend getting there as early as you can on Friday.  Load in starts at 9 am..

Quick question..in the rules it states that no garnish can be on the meat, does that mean it can't stick to it or does that mean you can't put it on top of the meat?..I don't know why anyone would put it on top though..just wondering

Scott was telling me to soak my chicken in Fruit Punch flavored Kool-Aid.  I hear that adds flavor and color.

It's all about the smoke ring!  Tender Quick for brisket and Kool-Aid for chicken.  We were using Tang as you suggested but found we didn't like the after taste.  For some peculiar reason our chicken bombed in Mesquite. :(
