Ok everyone I just called the ATV president and confirmed the date. I was way off and the "Out of the Ashes BBQ Contest"will officially be on the 5th and 6th of Sept. This should be the last date change, we got our days cross somewhere. So plan on this date. So for all the confusion.

HI all, How about some one that just wants come and enjoy? It would be my first, to taste and observe. Not in a place to compete yet, but maybe volunteer? Will be camping by myself in my '89 Westy. Where does the event actually happen? Is the camping area on the grounds with the cook off? How about a map?
Sounds great, can't wait! Timan

Absolutely, come on out & just hang out with everyone. There is plenty of room to set up & camp out with us. It's Dry camping, so you would need to have your own power. There are bathrooms out there.
If you were interested in judging, we might be able to get you involved with that. That would really give you a good idea of what this is all about.
The event is at the Rodeo grounds in Eagar, AZ.
Hope to see you out there.
-
I looked at the web page, but I did not see anything about the competition. Where do I go to get more info in the competition?
-
Here is the link to the Registration form. http://www.outoftheashesbbq.com/register-your-team/4566676638
What info are you looking for, I could possibly help.
-
Wow, two comps on the same weekend. Obviously if I ask this crowd you would say this one over the Rhythm and Ribs the same weekend. Eenie Meenie Minie Moe
-
Read up on that Rhythm and ribs comp, they say you're required to vend/sell RIBS for at least 2 days, you know those outrageous expensive ribs that you WILL lose money on ! I would think Out of the Ashes comp would be the only choice, unless you have a LOT of money to burn !
-
Out of the Ashes is a great venue in the cool pines of the White Mountains. A real bonding event for all. It's ideal for those who have always wanted to compete, but were intimidated by a big, noisy mega competition. It really does encompass the true spirit of BBQ competition. Food, friends, family and fun. Plus, it goes for a good cause, especially with the current fire burning in that neck o' the woods.
-
I would choose the out of ashes event for sure. The event is a lot of fun and the people are great. Every one has there own idea of what they want to get out of the BBQ events. I think there is more interest in vending events now, to give teams the opportunity to make some real cash beyond the prize fund if the people show up.

Thanks, for that heads up. I will check that out, if true, then I would have no interest in going.
-
Just one month left for the Early Bird pricing of just $100.
Get those entries in.
Looking forward to seeing everyone out there.
-
Why are all of the local comps on the same weekend. There are two in AZ and one in Vegas on the same weekend. What is a team to do.
-
One would think. Actually, all three are quite distinctively different. You just need to figure out what it is you are aiming for. We all have different motivations. Each good in its own right. Is that cryptic enough????
-
Okay what are the real dates 5&6th or 12&13th.
Thanks
Frank
-
5th and 6th Frankie.
-
going to send in my registration when I get home next week. Dave Kitchener are you in? And we need one more guy

Get those apps in and secure your spot.
Hope to see lots of you out there.

We are going to send our registration soon on this one. Our trailer is already in pine top. This is one of the funniest events and believe we need to support it even though there is a lot of competing events that weekend.
-
come on Rick its Pinetop
-
Or is it Pinetop/Lakeside...or Pine Top/Lake Side? And isn't Snow Flake and Showlow up there, too/two/to? ^-^
Whatever it is, it's one of the most beautiful places in AZ to hold a BBQ contest and a great bunch of folks.
-
Mike,
What is the prize fund for this comp goingto be?
-
As of now, it's the same as it's been the past 2 years. We are still hoping to get more sponsors on board to increase it, but it's tough up there as the ATV Jamboree is also going on and they have been there for many years and have pretty much locked up all the local sponsors.

Grand Champion - $700
Reserve Grand Champion - $300
4 Categories - Chicken, Ribs, Pork & Brisket - $500 per category
1st Place - $200

I think there were 18 teams and it was nice, had rain during the awards ceremony, perfect weather the rest of the time.

Bob, there are 2 other events that same weekend and they both have a higher payout, so we will probably only get about 10 - 15 teams and probably none of the big one, so this is a perfect event for teams that don't normally compete or new teams.
Hope to see you out there, it would be great to see you all once again.

What the heck are we chopped liver LOL

$3000 Prize fund and a really fun event.
Who else is planning on joining us??
-
Mike/Teams,
We'd like to join. We're a couple back yarders that have several questions about the particulars of a comp. I'm relatively familiar, but if anyone is willing to chat w/ me so I can help get my friends/family set up for an event, I would appreciate it.
Thx
Bill

I want to let everyone know that you might want to bring jackets, it is a balmy 50 degrees out here tonight. Last year got a little cool and rained the last day. So better to be safe than sorry. Really looking forward to seeing everyone.

Hey Mike did you get my entry
-
Hey Mike did you get my entry
Yes Scott, I got your's in. I will post up a team list on Tuesday after the mail comes to see if we have any others that were mailed on Friday.
Looking forward to the cooler weather, some great ATV rides & seeing everyone.
-
I met with the president of the ATV organization today. He told me that if anyone from our comp. that have an atv and wants to go on trail rides with them to register and they will get you a wristband for no charge. This would be good for families that need something to do while we are prepping to cook. You will be required to sign a waiver with them and wear protection while on the atv's. If you are on the fence on whether to enter or not, I think this would be a great comp for you. This is a fun competition and a perfect one for a first time competitor. The weather is awesome up here right now, it is cool and overcast. I have been seeing a lot of deer and elk out during the last week. So come on up and let us show you a great time.

Mike,
I am sad to say we will not be able to make it this year. We just have some bad timing. I know it will be another great event. The people in your town are awesome and I hope they enjoy the teams and the food. I guess I will have to let someone else win the RV and land also. I look forward to making it next year.

Bummer, sorry to hear Robert. Look forward to seeing you again soon on the BBQ Trail..

Still lots of time to get your team registered for this great event.
If you are a new team wanting to get into Competition BBQ, this is a great event to do so, low entry fee ($125) and no hidden costs, just one fee for entry, larger space, health permit, etc.
It's one of the easiest and most affordable events you can do. Plus it's up in the cool pines of Northern Arizona and in conjunction with the Outlaw ATV Jamboree, so lots of great activities going on and lots of fun adventures.
Get your team registered today & come join us for a fun, cool weekend.
-

Dang, we are going to miss you Robert. Take care.

Please pardon all my newbiness but I have never done a competition but I am interested. How does something like this work? I'm assuming you bring all your own meat? If so how much should be brought. Do you have to do all categories (chicken, ribs, brisket and pork) or just some? Any and all info would be much appreciated. I'm thinking about trying to sign up for this if I can make the date in such a short notice. Thanks !
-
Yes, you bring and cook all four meats: chicken, ribs (spares or baby backs), pork butt and beef brisket. No advance seasoning/trimming is allowed. Turn-ins on Saturday are at noon, 12:45, 1:30 and 2:15pm. You must provide a minimum of 6 pieces (6 ribs, 6 chicken thighs, etc.) Teams put their longest cooking meats on around midnight Friday. Ribs and chicken go on in the AM. The trick is backtiming everything so it is done at just the right time. There is more to it than my simplified scenario. Others can fill in what I missed. This event is a good, low-pressure one to start with. ;D

From the BCS Page:
Pre-trimming of meat is permitted, but it may not be pre seasoned, injected or marinated.
-
You're correct. My bad. ::) That is just one of the differences that makes BCS comps a little less hectic and more fun. So are the turn-ins set 45 minutes apart rather than 30. ;D
-
Looks like our friends & Club Sponsor, Anthony Spices has just registered his team for this event as well.
In Addition to his entry fee, he has also generously donated a gift basket for us to use either in the Kids Q or Appetizer Party.
Thanks Lance, you always come through for us. Look forward to seeing you and your team out at this great event.
