Hey all, I have been asked to describe how the Tailgate portion of this event will work.
Every team that signs up for the main comp is included at no additional cost.
If a team just wants to do the Tailgate Portion, it's $50 Entry..
We will have 4 -6 judges come around to the booths starting at about 2 pm.
When they come to your booth, they will judge your Booth Decorations & Team Spirit. They are looking to see how your booth setup coincides with your Team Spirit. This can be any sort of Team, Pro, College, High School, NASCAR, etc. Just make it consistent throughout the booth.
Then you will have an opportunity to provide them with one plate of food, your Tailgate Fare.. This is whatever you want it to be. It can include appetizers, main course, dessert, etc. It's your choice. You will have to provide 4 - 6 plates, enough for each of the judges. We will announce ahead of time how many judges there will be.
Payout for this category is as follows:
1st place: $600
2nd place: $300
3rd place: $150
4th place: $100
5th place: $50
Sign up today and enjoy a great, spirited & fun event...

The Tailgate Portion of this event is open to EVERYONE, not just the teams competing in the main BBQ Comp.
If you want to come out and do a Tailgate Setup, sign up today, it's just $50....
-
Tailgate Teams are required to be onsite no later than 9 am on Saturday. Due to the BBQ Comp going on and traffic coming in for it, we can't have you setting up after this.
Come on out, get set up and enjoy the entire day's events out at Rock Springs Cafe...
-
This is a great idea, Mike. We are looking forward to this one!
-
Yea, I think this will be a blast.
In the middle of the NFL PLayoffs, week before Superbowl...
Nothing better than a great Tailgate party...
-
I'm getting really stoked (no pun intended) for this contest! Thanks for all you do to promote the 'q!
Carpe 'Que,

OK... For those of you who (really) know me, You know I am not into sports... I am going all out for this! I can't wait! Jessie and I even have our Dish ready. Ohhhhhhhh..... It tastes so good!
-
Just to sort of clarify, is this kind of like how the judges come around at an MBN (Memphis BBQ Assoc/Memphis in May) comp? Essentially the dog and pony show? This ought to be fun! ;D
-
Exactly.
Up to 6 judges will come around to your booth to judge your setup & theme, Spirit & 1 plate of Tailgate fare. The plate can include multiple items or just one item, it's up to you.
I think this will be a fun aspect to the event..

Got some Celebrity Judges locked down for judging the Tailgate Portion of this event.
Should be a Lot of fun.
Come on Teams, go all out for this one, it's going to be a blast..
-
Question on tailgate judging...... If they are going to be coming to us are we gonna have any kind of schedule of when they might be stopping at each booth that is competing? How much time will they spend at each booth? If it starts at 2 and it's 3.30 by they get to the last booth it could me a long time just trying to keep food warm without over cooking or drying out. Also when will me know if it will be 4 or 6 judges? If I come up with anymore questions I will be sure and let you know. ;D
-
Unfortunately, we won't know about how many judges until the day of the event. It depends upon how many show up and how many teams are doing the Tailgate Throwdown.
Right now, it is our plan to have 2 sets of 6 judges doing it. We are hopeful that we get some of our VIP/Celebrity judges out there to split between the judging groups.
As for keeping the food warm, welcome to tailgating.. That's one of the challenges of tailgating, keeping the food warm during the entire tailgate as you have people show up throughout the entire thing. Yes, it is a challenge, but it's also part of the fun of it.
It is our goal to have a "Lead" person who will come by each booth and inform them about 20 - 30 minutes prior to the judges coming by.
The judges won't be there long, only about 5 - 10 minutes per booth. Just enough time to see your both, gauge your team spirit and try out your tailgate fare. Then they are on to the next one.
Let me know if this answers your questions and if you have any others I can help answer...
Good Luck out there to all the teams..
-
Still have room for more Tailgate teams.
Just $50 to enter with a chance to win over $1200 in Cash, Prizes & Trophies.
If nothing else, come on out and enjoy a great day with some great BBQers..
Hope to see some of you out there.. ;)

Erin is going to rock the tailgate contest. She has the best tailgating
-
They are the early favorites, but I would not count out a lot of the other teams, this is going to be a fun one to see play out.
We also have 2 Tailgate only teams, so I'm sure they are planning on going all out.
Should be fun...
-
Erin & Jim's dog is their secret weapon. Once he turns on the charm, it's all over. ;)
-
Those of you competing in the Tailgate Challenge, make sure to invite out all of your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc. The more people you have at your booth helping to create the "Tailgate" atmosphere, the better you will do..
Good Luck to all of you, looking forward to seeing what you all come up with...

Now that the Teams are set for the Superbowl. I wonder if any of our Tailgate Throwdown Teams will be sporting either team at the event.
GO CARDINALS!!!
-
On the flyer, it says tailgate at 3:30 and somewhere else it says judging starts at 2pm. Brisket turn in is at 2:15 so can the non-competing teams for the tailgate portion be judged first so that on-site judging does not interfere with Brisket turn in??
-
Yes, we will go over that at the Cook's meeting on Friday.
The teams that are ONLY competing in the Tailgate Challenge will start at 2 pm with the judges. By the time they get through with them, it will be 2:45 - 3:00 pm.
We got you covered... ;)

Now that fireworks are semi-legal, I suggest you put the Packers tailgaters next to the Steelers and watch the fireworks! :o :D
